Value system recommendations

I need to convince my auncle to upgrade from his crappy 120mhz/8mb etc computer so I never have to deal with it every time i go home. I need it to be as basic and as cheap as possible. preferably I need everything but a monitor. If I convince him I'll probably get it for him in November(hopefully prices go down further by then). I am thinking along the lines of a Duron 700 (for some reason its cheaper then the 650) and an intergrated chipset. I also want it to be stable so that I don't get any complaints(guess who will be fixing it!!!)

Just dont get a Celeron. They have no cache, and are basicly just PIIIs that didnt pass inspection. What is you're price line? $500? $1000? Give me a clue.

celerons have cache, they have 128k. when they first came out they didn't though.

Go for a Duron though liek you suggested. 30 bucks for an 800 mhz processor is awesome.

Stay far away from Celery.

Duron just can't be beat for a "budget" or "value" box. With lower end Durons selling for $25-$30, there's just no better price/performance option out there in the budget arena. You should be able to pick up a decent board and a low-end Duron for $100-$125.

the kt133e based boards are very cheap and offer great performance. the abit kt7e has gotten great reviews and i think asus has a kt133e solution out also. these boards sell <100 shipped, but don't come with integrated sound or video. for your cpu, you can't beat durons for their price and performance ratio.
