I'm gonna be going for new RAM 2x1Gs for my Asus A7N8X-X mobo.
What do you guys recommend brand name wise?
here's the mobo
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=13&l3=58&model=219&modelmenu=1
here's what I'm looking at
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCo...146841,N82E16820145579&SubCategory=147

2 things about the list
1) what's the difference in the 2 kingston models?
2) how much difference would there be in performance in the OCZ models?
I don't overclock or tweak my computer, keep in mind.

Thanks.

I've had good results with both Viking and Corsair... The whole lifetime guarantee is only good for the lifetime of the company, and both of those have been around a long time, which will probably continue...

Along the same topic-what about PNY memory? no one seems to do reviews on it ? I am interested in their Verto Hi-Speed Memory PC3700 DDR466. Even their own website is sketchy on details of this memory. What gives???

Thanks for any reply

Well, I couldn't even find the KVR400AK2/2GR variant at Kingstons website. I'm personally sceptical of any RAM that doesn't advertise it's latency, so I would steer clear of this version.

I've run that exact Corsair kit in a couple of rigs, and had absolutely no problems with it.

As was said previously, check out G.SKILL, I've been using their Extreme memory 2GB sets, both DDR 400 and DDR500 variants, with great success.

here are two you might be interested in:

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR400 (PC3200) Unbuffered System Memory Model F1-3200PHU2-2GBNS

G.SKILL Value 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory Model F1-3200PHU2-2GBNT

Crucial makes good memory, 14k, but their prices aren't in the ballpark atm...

(witchfire) Why wouldn't you trust them, if they don't advertise their latency?
To me it's all jibberish, so I don't understand what latency does.
Assuming speed?
How is G.Skill in terms of RMA'ing stuff if defective?
Thanks appreciate the help guys

I don't know loads about memory but lower numbers in latency are always(?) better. Most manufacturers advertise the CAS latency, you'll usually see it written as CL=x. Most value RAM has CL=3 but you can find some stuff with CL=2.5 but CL=2 is generally for your high-performance OCZ platinum range etc. I can't personally tell you if there's much of a noticeable difference between 3 and 2.5 because I am still running a machine with SDRAM . You might not be able to notice at all if you're not overclocking.

Someone more knowledgable please correct me if I'm wrong.

Lower is better. There will be no difference in real-world performance between 2.5 and 3, but if they are the same price and both are reputable manufacturers it makes sense to get the 2.5 RAM.

1) it has been benchmarked here that variations in latency values do not make much difference - I'm sure someone around here could find the link if requested.
2) after not worrying about latency, pick a brand that has a lifetime warranty
3) be happy and don't look back on the decision

So here are the final two i decided on.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145579
Corsair
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231047
G.Skill
Both say lifetime warranty, but when you go to G.Skill's site, it says all memory products covered for one year.
http://www.gskill.com/RMAPolicy.html
So I'm kinda confused unless I'm not understanding something here.

Also for this model of G.Skill the con was that 2.8V would be better for the RAM, is that something that can be achieved or changed, or not?
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/GSkill/3200-2GBHS/3

Any major differences that I haven't caught, other than latency and no heatsink on the Corsair?
Thanks again guys.
