First of all, I love this game but I never could finish it on the PS3 because of how the controls worked and that the TV was always in demand when I had free time. I will mainly be comparing the PC port to the PS3 version and how it holds up as a PC port. All opinions are subjective.

This port is very well made. The music and story are of course untouched, the gameplay is the same, but the port offers decent customization for graphical settings. 1900x1200 was supported, and I did not notice any FPS dips or judder.

A nice touch is that all the cutscenes are completely skippable, a big pet peeve of mine in RPGs. The watercolor animation and the anime art style, if you liked it on the PS3, is even better with PC hardware. I could see no graphical glitches or gameplay bugs in the first two missions.

The game can be locked to 30 FPS or the refresh rate which I am assuming is unbound FPS. Your PC will really need to suck to be lower than 30 FPS average so pick the unbound option.

The biggest improvement from the PS3 game is not the graphics (still a big improvement over the PS3) but the load times. They are practically non-existent and I am playing on a 80% filled hard drive. Saving is even faster, you will think at first that it did not happen, I had to go check to make sure.

There are two sticky points with the port. The first is that the default controls are slightly wonky. For me, Enter will skip some actions and cut-scenes, but Left Mouse Button will work for the rest. I was a bit frustrated that I had to keep trying both keys for skipping, and it was not intuitive which key would be used when.

Another weird key binding situation is that the Right Mouse button will put you in aiming mode. But to leave the aiming mode, you must click the Middle Mouse button or the scroll wheel. The game does not indicate this in any tutorials so please check the control configuration before playing.

The second sticky point is that there is some mild aliasing, especially on spiky hair. No fiddling in the options could remove the aliasing. It is not very noticeable but some people may have issues with it. I am guessing this is a engine issue.

In summary, this was a very good port. The few flaws are not that bad, and Sega did a good job compared to other infamous ports.

The Good = Same outstanding gameplay/music/plot from the PS3 game, good set of PC option customization, very short loading times, great performance, skippable cutscenes

The Bad = wonky default controls for some functions, mild persistent aliasing on certain objects

The Ugly = PC gamers had to wait six years for this. About time, Sega.

Thanks, I got distracted by a shiny object and never finished it on PS3, it sounds like it will be better on a PC especially for the load times.

Wrong thread, buddy. You are looking for the Sega PC port thread. Please keep the discussion to Valkyria Chronicles and the port.

I have noticed one more flaw after playing the game some more. The cut-scenes are all PS3-quality unchanged assets. A bit jarrring transitioning from the low-res cut-scenes to the smoother high-res gameplay.

I am up to chapter 8 now , that last battle (the big tank) took me honest to god four or five hours and several attempts

Good port but I've had a couple of crashes here and there and sometimes the pointer goes mental

If you are referring to using the mouse/keyboard while driving the tank, I find the best solution is to steer with the mouse and only press W for Forward and S for Reverse. The mouse sensitivity in menus is generally too low.

love the game, hate the controls, even after remapping. Poor instructions for remapping also, I wouldn't have known you could run if I hadn't played the PS3 version. But if you dont have a PS3 this one is a MUST BUY.

It is decent; default controls are fine but for tanks take a bit getting used to; it is very linear with almost no replay (for the story). I'm mostly getting B's on the battles which doesn't bother me; about 1/2 way done. Biggest gripes is sometime the date on save files is off by an hour for soem strange reason and it is a PIA to exit the game.

I never replay RPGs, they typically take over 60 hours to complete and the backlog is big enough, so replayability is not something I value, but if the game is fun, that's all that matters.

Well, most of the RPG stuff, you can skip if you want but it increases the difficulty if you don't level up. The game is definitely fun if you enjoy games like X-COM.

Started this yesterday and pretty impressed. I love the aesthetic and setting, the english VA is pretty solid, the whole 'storybook' interface and the episodes/chapters are pretty charming and the combat/scenarios are enjoyable and involved.

Tank controls are pretty rough and I find it annoying how some of the 'overwatch' type gunfire seems hit or miss as to when/where/how far it will fire. Also have experienced some issues with 'clipping' or hitboxes where my unit's gun will [appear to] have a clear line of sight to an enemy (albeit the barrel is near a tank or a tree or ledge or whatever) and the projectiles go right into the object.

Overall loving it though, played a ton yesterday and looking forward to continuing, just a matter of getting accustomed to some of the interesting behavior/mechanics that imo comes with all sRPGs.

Be sure to see the cut-scene AFTER the credits when you are finished :)

Beat it last night, man that was one hell of a wonderful game. Already started a new game with my saved data to try A ranking more battles and try out the skirmishes/challenges/extras.

Some of the big plot twists/"omg" moments were kind of predictable/too heavily foreshadowed and a few things here and there go somewhat unresolved and even after all those missions there's still some annoying ticks to the gameplay, but they're minor blemishes in what was a tremendously fun and engaging game.

I thought the ending was very well done, though kind of like... Samurai Champloo/Cowboy Bebop? I never really liked the whole "well we've gone through all this together, man that was one hell of a ride. ok see you later!" where everybody splits basically. Though Alicia's Bakery having that picture on the countertop was a great send-off.

Highly recommended for anyone who digs sRPGs.
