See, the problem me and many on this thread have this, it currently is *better* to be illegal than do the legal way for any immigration rule in America.
Brought here illegally as a kid: DACA for unrestricted EAD/college etc.
Brought here as a kid by parents legally (but are waiting for a green card): your kid 'ages out' and has to apply for a student visa or go home.
High skilled employment based immigrant from India or China: Wait for 5+ years for a green card, go home if you lose your job, travel itself is shaky because your visa might not be honored
Illegal here on DACA: travel privileges
High Skilled immigrant having a child in the US: Be on a H1 visa until you get a green card, and each job change = go through 2 years of reapplying for a green card gain. And oh, H1 renewals = 2k + lawyer fees (paid by the employer)
Illegally present with a child in the US: get unrestricted employment authorization (proposed) renewable every 2 years, fee: $380.
As an immigrant, I'm not sure there's any benefit to doing things the right way. Worse is that liberals seem to support this unfairness whole heartedly. Why is that? I just don't understand it.
I don't think anyone denies that we need to reform our immigration system, but reformation of it has been blocked by Republicans for years.
