Val Kilmer will play porn legend John Holmes. Lisa Kudrow and Kate Bosworth may join him in ''Wonderland'' by Gary Susman
Move over, Mark Wahlberg. Variety reports that Val Kilmer is about to star as porn legend John Holmes in ''Wonderland,'' a movie about Los Angeles' notorious Laurel Canyon Murders. In talks to join him in the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter, are Lisa Kudrow, who'd play his first wife, Sharon; ''Blue Crush'''s Kate Bosworth, who'd play his teenage lover; and Christina Applegate and ''Sweet Home Alabama'''s Josh Lucas, who'd play Holmes' friends, Ron and Susan Launius.
Holmes, the famously well-endowed porn star of the 1970s and '80s, was an inspiration for Wahlberg's Dirk Diggler character in ''Boogie Nights.'' He was also allegedly present at a drug-related quadruple homicide (along with the Bosworth, Lucas, and Applegate characters) in 1981, though he was ultimately acquitted of any involvement in the crime. He died of AIDS in 1988. Both Holmes' ex-wife and former girlfriend have been consultants on the project, director James Cox (''Highway'') tells Variety. He'll shoot the film for Lions Gate in November.
