Loud? I'm willing to put up with extra noise for 1/4th of the price. Performance and Warranty is what I'm looking for. Rigid does both BEST.
 
I have a husky, wood floors ... hair, everyhwere. we vacuum 2-3 times a week...and usually go through 1-2 vacuums a year from target @ the $50 price range.

I'm bumping this thread for more discussion. I was looking at a Shark for $199 on Amazon.

I'm really only interested in ordering what Amazon has with free shipping as I don't feel like going around with coupons trying to find a deal that will save me $20. I'd rather sit here, research, order, and have it show up to my house 🙂

Most people say Shark vacuums are great, but Freedomsbeat says otherwise, which makes me nervous.

It hasn't been that long in reality since I posted this but the shark works really well still. We have a giant 85+ lb chocolate lab and this thing gets used heavily basically twice a week if not more. Just keep the filters clean and you'll be fine.

The hundreds of refurbished dyson vacs I saw when looking made me a lot more nervous than one guy's bad experience.

Thanks for the feedback. I like Dyson, but the more I read the more I think it's not worth the money. I believe they used to be awesome and above all the other brands. But I think as they got more publicity, they started to make them cheaper and other companies started to catch up with the technology.

Shark on Amazon seems to have a $140, $180, and $200 model that I'm looking at. The only other one I'm interested in at this point is probably the Hoover wind tunnel for like $170. The price between these isn't necessarily an issue. I plan on having it 5+ years so a difference of $60 over 5 years of use isn't much.
 
hoover windtunnel! i always thought vacuums were all the same.. all crappy... not hoovers higher end stuff!

i bought mine at big lots for $75. it was $220 at sears at that time. big lots had them for like $100, but it was a floor model so i asked the manager if i could get a discount and she gave me 25%. it was hoovers best model windtunnel at the time.

its absolutely crazy how much stuff this thing sucks up. it doesnt leave anything behind. and the side attatchment is just as strong as my 12gal shopvac, no joke. and best part is it uses bags! buying filters is a joke when the bag does the same thing and youre always replacing it instead of letting your filter clog up and slow down your suction

I'll chime in. I had a bunch of best buy reward certificates that were about to expire and saw the DC-41 go on sale. I picked it up and I love it. I didn't like spending all that money on a vacuum but I am actually excited to vacuum the floor.

After unboxing it I went over a carpet in my son's room and it picked up so much stuff that I filled the container.
 
I have a bagless and a bagged vacuum. Honestly, I don't think bagless is that great other than for saving costs on the handling of the bag. Sometimes, you're vacuuming stuff that very yucky and want it well contained in a bag.
 
Love my dyson, bought a hoover off of that "dyson killer for 12 bucks!" thread and there's no comparison. My DC24 is also tiny and looks hot - all for $275 refurbed with a seller extended warranty. ebay is your friend.
 
One thing to realize with the Dyson is that alot of what is being "pick up" are carpet fibers. The beater brush is pretty stiff compared to other vacuums which likely accounts for a lot of what you see initially when you use a Dyson.

EDIT: I own a dyson, just pointing this out.

Bags are the way to go for me.

The bagless containers are small and when you empty them out the shit gets on your arm as well as sometimes breathing it (so much for the HEPA filter 🙄), not to mention going into the container to dislodge some crap.

I love my Miele bagged swivel vacuum. Trounces a Dyson across the board. It was pricey though.

I got a Electrolux Nimble from Costco when they were on sale a while back for $140. They can otherwise be had for around $200 if you look.

It's supposed to be in the "Dyson" class and from what little I've used it so far, I don't doubt it.

The day I bought it, I vacuumed nearly my whole house with my old Hover Windtunnel that I thought was pretty decent right up until the motor went up in smoke.

The wife and I happened to be heading to Costco right after anyway and saw the Nimble on sale and after doing some in-store quick research online from our phones and seeing it had favorable reviews overall, we bought it.

Got it home and reran it over the house I had just vacuumed earlier that day and HOLY SHIT! It was like I pulled a cats weight in hair out of the rugs TWICE! Not even joking. All said, I filled the canister up 3 times in that initial vacuuming.

Couldn't get over it.

Now it still pulls up stuff but nothing like that initial time.

Well worth the money, even at $200 IMO.
