Vacation to NYC

So I should be in NYC next week with some of my friends...how do I get from the airport to midtown (or just into NYC).

I don't know if it's LaGuardia, JFK or Newark yet...but someone said that you can take a train in from all of them?

Please help. 🙂

Taxi. It will make your life a helluva lot easier as an "NYC Newb", but then again, you might get charged up the a$$if you're not careful.
You can take trains from either LaGuardia or JFK into Manhattan without any problems. Just go to MTA's site and check out the subway map and you'll be set.
You can take a train from Newark Airport to Newark Penn Station, from where you can take either a train to Penn Station in Manhattan (34st) or hop on the PATH train to go to downtown Manhattan. Newark airport also has a shuttle bus run by NJ Transit that will take you to the Port Authority bus terminal in midtown Manhattan.

Enjoy your stay 😉

Thanks...I'd just rather do what costs me the least, since I'll be spending way too much money anyway. I have the time to take the subway anyway..

how much would the taxi be, you think?

If you fly into Newark, just take the train. It runs every 30 mins or so and only costs about $9/person. The ride is about 30 mins, and there is a rail station at Newark Airport itself, just ride the free monorail past the parking lot. I think it's called Air Tran.

I've used it everytime i fly into Newark and go to the city, havent had a single problem yet.

don't bother with the subway system if you land in the weekends.

MTA can't get their head out of their asses and run them on the correct lines. 😀

well it depends on your airport... cheapest method is through AirTrain/MTA/NJ Transit trains to manhattan... or the buses.

car service should be like $30? Im not sure how much a taxi cost.

I've never taken a taxi into Manhattan from any of these airports so I wouldn't know, but many offer flat rates. Probably $30 or $40. Your best bet is to call the airport ahead of time and find out.

Having said that, one way on the subway will cost you $2, which is quite a difference. Could be more of a pain if you have a lot of luggage though.

If you fly in with your friends and split the taxi fare, it would only come out to be like $10 each (assuming you're with 2 others)

Hey, at least you have choices!

well it looks like I'll be flying into LGA...so all thsoe transit services are still available there?

Don't know if LGA has a direct connection available to the subways. You might need to take a shuttle bus or taxi to one of the subways if you want to take a subway in. This Map is your friend. Also available somewhere on MTA's site in pdf format.

From the airport, the maximum the cabbie can charge is $35.00. Going to the airport is anybody's guess.

If you're going into LGA, I think you should cab it. It's really easy to get into the city from LGA. From JFK, then AirTrain might be ok. JFK to the city I think is $40 flat rate + 3.50 toll + tip so like .. $50. It's a pretty far ride. Try to avoid going to Newark. LGA is your best bet. I love flying out of there.

didnt bloomberg (or some other dude) implement a flat rate to the airport? i cant remember whether it was 50, 60, or 75....

i know from jfk you have to catch a shuttle bus from the airport to the trains...i think the train is the A train. the A train will take you into the city (as do just about every single subway line except for three)
