Vacation Price Tracking

I know this has probably been covered before in detail, but the search feature sucks.

Anyways....

Does anyone know an easy site to track prices of hotel/airfare over time? I'm looking for some kind of graphical info about trends in pricing, querying all the major travel search engines... that sorta stuff.

Try the Department of Tourism.

I'm not looking for historical data, I'm more talking about a real-time sort of thing.

If you wanted to book a trip for a certain weekend with airfare and a specific hotel, you could do all of it by hand by going to expedia/travelocity/orbitz/etc every day, and then graphing out the best deal for (specific hotel)+air. By looking at the trend, you could try and predict the best time to buy.

I just was hoping for some kind of automated system that was already in place for that.

There are quite a few software packages that do that. The catch is that they are all subscriptions (think SABRE, GILBOA). There is no alternative other than doing the footwork yourself which is why travel agents still exist.

Yea, that's more or less what I figured.

Maybe I'll try and whip up a script to do this...
