Vacation home or exotic car?

I don't make yacht kind of money. Last month I made $150k. I put half aside for taxes, then I realized that I squandered the rest away. Since I'll be making about $120K per month for the next several months, I figured I should try buying something more tangible like a car or house in the $200K range, hence this thread.

The couple of yacht owner types I know both rent out their yachts/charter their yachts many of the weeks of the year that they are not using it personally. So, a small yacht may look like a 3 or 4 million depreciating asset, but many folks actually turn a profit or manage to cover the vast majority of the costs/expenses this way.

Anyhow, maybe you just aren't a boat person? 200K may get you a nice supercar which can appreciate in value as long as you take care of it ... but, meh, I feel that a car is wasted if it just sits in a collection.

I would head to the rainforest and locate a Ayahuasca shaman. Only then will you find true happiness. And that spot on your hand.

And even beyond the hoarding, look at what is being hoarded. A grown man buying that many kids toys and that many guns would be career case for a good therapist.

Don't remind me. Decapitated Lego action figures.😱

Would be interesting to individually drill out all the eyes and put tiny LED modules in those and have them all light up as is, in the bin. The product of nightmares.

I'm trying to figure out how you have so much disposable income while making “only” $150k a year. My wife and I make more than that combined, and we’re basically broke.

Where do you live?

That's ~$150k/month. I couldn't see me working more than one month per year, and some years I might only work a week or so :^D

I could see it. I make a bit under 80k/year gross and I could probably afford to buy another property if I wanted to and I sometimes go on Amazon spurts where I buy lot of electronics stuff. I kinda am a hoarder just not as bad. 😛 And by afford I really mean the bank giving me a mortgage. Ex: that they'd approve it. Would be tight as frig, and would require lowering my current payment. I guess credit is cheating though. 😛

I know a couple very rich people, but you wouldn't know it. They invest their money, save it, create jobs with it, and generally help the community with it. If I were very rich I would probably be miserable. The wife and I classify as upper class in income, and we have everything paid for. My motto is collect interest, don't pay it. Anyway we aren't even close to being rich, really. If I had to buy something right now it would not be a vacation home because I'm too lazy to want to upkeep it, so I'd buy a classic muscle car instead. It's an investment and a fun toy.

You'd get bored. As much as people think work sucks they don't need it, they only need money. If you don't go to work you lose your sense of accomplishment and you end up with too much free time. All that stuff you think would be so fun to do with a lot of money would be just as boring as everything else. Just like madoka having a sports car but never driving it. Hell he makes 50 times what I do and I don't know what to do with my extra cash either. I don't work 40 hours a week every week neither. I look forward to getting those big jobs where I get to work 40+ hours a week for a month or two.

There's limitless things I could do without work, and most of them don't cost much. Being someone's bitch doesn't give any meaning to my life.

If I worked one madoka month, that would get me a sweet forge, fully outfitted, and a (literal)ton of stock to work with. Oh, and a couple emus(cause fuckin' emus!). That would keep me busy for quite a long time.

I guess thats the difference between me and you, I'm no ones bitch.

Thats what I'm talking about you want to do something productive. You should quit that life sucking job of yours, get your forge and do what makes you happy.

You don't have to start big, I started my business with a rusty old pick up truck, a knife and a tape measure.

I can think of a ton of things I'd rather do than what I'm currently paid to do. Let's run a list:
Actually play the Steam backlog I've got of oh, 150 games or so that I haven't finished (nevermind the ~200 running list on my wishlist).
Take up archery
Take up blacksmithing
Travel to museums around the world
Travel to see cool shit, like ancient ruins or natural wonders
Start my own distillery
Start my own winery
Invent new alcohol, and start making that
... Collect Lego
...That's a good start, and would probably last me until either I died, or someone figured out how to halt cancer and dementia. I'd need a new list after that.

If I was the OP, I'd invest the money in new a technology startup. Stop buying toys, and do something cool with it.

Or, see if you can get enough money saved up to get some really big toys, like a yacht or a private plane 🙂

If I had enough money that I didn't have to work I'd just find something else to do, like volunteer at the animal shelter or something. Or start a small business, but you don't have to worry about if it's successful or not, you just do it for fun. Maybe work twice a week or something.

not working/retired is not the same as doing nothing. Plenty of ways to fill for your days on projects, adventures, education, etc. If we were retired, I promise you: only 80% of my free time would be filled with fapping and video games. The rest would be very productive.

I always chuckle when I see stories of movie stars and rappers drinking $1,000 bottles of champagne and spraying it around like idiots. If they only knew how many Banquet pot pies they could buy with that money...
