This guy is a scumbag of the highest order...yet keeps getting back in to power somehow. The most recent scandal involves sex and impregnating a 16 year old girl. Morrissey was found guilty and sent to jail. He resigned his seat, but only effective the day of the election. He lost the primary election but ran as an independent...and won. From jail (on work release). He threatened the family of the girl he knocked up to keep quiet. The guy has been disbarred twice. After the second time, the bar association voted unanimously to disallow his being reinstated, but this was overturned by one judge. He has a history of sex with underage girls, children out of wedlock, contempt of court, assault, forgery, the list goes on and on. Yet he got out of trouble and got re-elected yet again. It just blows my mind that people like this not only exist, but are able to continually get away with such behavior.

Sounds like the type of guy you'd like to have a drink with. You know, provided you're a male and you never let the drink leave your sight and there's nobody under 21 present...

Not only that he ran as an independent. So a 3rd party candidate running from weekend jail won. :)
How bad were the Dem and Rep candidates they lost to him.

He's more like the type of guy that would start a bar fight with you, then sue you for a million dollars, win because he knows the judge, then have sex with and impregnate your teenage daughter, then trash you and your family's reputation in public media.

Lived in Virginia 6 years and learned something unpleasant: Most of these people are FUCKING DUMB!

Like scary dumb. Like "hold my beer" dumb.

They keep electing guys to screw them over and it happens at every election. I worry a lot.

I wonder if the ballot still had him listed as the incumbent.

Ballots here in VA do not list that. They will say D, R, L, and I for example beside the name. In his case he was I, Independent. If you look in the paper or maybe a sample ballot it may list who the incumbent is but even then he resigned his seat before the election so he was not really a incumbent either.

I'm convinced that a great many voters suffer from a sort of political stockholm syndrome.

Reminds me of Charlie Rangel. This guy has been convicted of numerous crimes, and was even found to have $80,000 in bribes in his freezer and he still got re-elected.

Voters do not pay attention to the news. They don't even know their candiadates positions. They see a name, recognize it and vote for the name. This is why we get familys' passing on their politcal positions to their sons/daughters/wifes.

Don't know. What we do know a plurality of Dems didn't want him this time around. That's why he lost the primary.

Too bad those Dems weren't here in NY. I heard about "bridgegate" like it was cancer, but our Emperor Cuomo promised he'd take on corruption in Albany until his friends were in the spotlight then that came to an abrupt end. Virtually nothing was heard about that here in NY. Far worse than the NJ governor but a silent pass. No, a hearty welcome back. We're more corrupt than NJ or VA though.

I think you are talking about "Dollar Bill cold hard cash" Jefferson unless there is another dumb ass politician that stored their bribe money in the freezer. Don't these assholes know that the freezer is one of the most common places people use to hide cash? You would think a politician as dirty as Dollar Bill would know that.

As icing on the cake, he was sentenced in 2009 and didn't actually get locked up till 2012, must be nice to be a politician. More icing, because I love icing on my cakes, basically his entire family has been indicted since he was, on completely different public corruption and stealing money from charities they ran, with 2 of his sisters turning states evidence (or Feds evidence??) against their brother Mose.

You know the old adage, " Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer".
I gotta give him credit, he's rather open about being a sleazebag, unlike other politicians who often lie, and work against you once they're elected.
I'm not just a sleazebag,----- I'm your sleazebag!! LOL, but think about it. Who would you rather have represent you, "I did not have sex with that
woman", etc, etc, etc, OR, YEAH, I nailed that. Think of the millions of dollars that could have been saved with honesty!

Yep. And in spite of his many, many ethics violations and outright crimes, at least Rangel really was once an authentic American hero. This guy just seems like a scum bag from day one.

No, a plurality of vocal Ds didn't want him. Despite what the Ds around here would like to think, the majority of D voters are no better than R voters. They just mindlessly pull a lever.

Don't be fooled people, this was a right wing wacko who paraded around a democrat, and now he is parading around as an independent. He is still a right winger.

Notice Dems in Va didn't want him. He lost primary as a D.

That makes no sense, especially since that district is >70% Blue. He'd have to carry a whole bunch of Dems to win, because it looks like the Repubs voted along party lines.
