V5500 OpenGL problem

This is the only forum I frequent on the net that has people that actually know what the heck they are talking about (for the most part! :) ) so I thought I could ask this question here.

I just did a fresh reinstall of Win98SE after a reformat. After all my drivers were installed, I started putting in my games. When I run "Homeworld" in OpenGL I get a "flicker" in the map screen when I select the "tactical overlay". As well, in the "build" screen, the ship chosen flicker too. This only happens in OpenGL and not D3D.

When I play Q3, I get some very slight "artifacts" in the middle of the screen. Almost unnoticable, but still there. This is with both the Beta and last official V5 Drivers.

My system did not do this before. Does anyone have any ideas?

1.2 Ghz T-Bird
1.28(?) 4n1 (Whatever the latest, offical Via ones are)
MSI K7T Pro 2A mobo
384MB RAM
V5500 AGP
SB Live Value
Quantum Fireball 30GB

Thats about it...

I would appreciate any ideas!

Thanks!

Did you overclock your video card? If not, how hot is the inside of your case? Use MBM to check.

To my knowledge, V5 still uses those crappy MiniGL drivers, which means some OpenGL apps/games don't work 100%.

My 2 cents unless it changed.

Try the different drivers again I guess, get all the settings back to what they were before the reformat.

Yes. I have DX8a installed. Nothing in my system overclocked whatsoever.

Anyone else?

All res's and color depths.

Something that I neglected to mention in the OP is that for homeworld, the "entire screen" is not flickering. In the sensors view, only the asteroids do and not the mothership. In the ship build screen, ONLY the model of the ship selected, nothing else.

Anyone? I appreciate the help!

As well, with Homeworld, if I go to the 3Dfx mini-driver that is included, it doesn't flicker at all. It is only with the true openGL driver.

Your system sounds pretty capable of handling most applications/games using d3d. This, I assume, is just one of those things that nags at you in the back of your head???
"like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad"...........
Lol.

Right. The system is perfectly stable in every way. It does nothing unexpected, other than this. Thats all :) I just know it shouldn't be that way.

Oh well, I guess I will be getting a KyroII before to terribly long.

I would appreciate a solution though if someone does still know!

Thanks alot.

Try the latest AGP driver for your motherboard, also a reinstall of the game itself may help, sometimes complex games just don't get a good load. Make sure your bios setting is not on 4X for the AGP, V5 doesn't really use this anyway. Try messing with the 3dfx tool settings for open GL, such as the V-sync and max buffered frames, mip-map stuff ect.
