I just tested my new v5 5500 on my friends system. Installed the drivers, ran the benchmark, removed the card, left the software, replaced the V3, benchmarked again, and drooled. I can't believe the differance it made! 15fps MORE in 3dmark.

Are these the leaked beta v5 drivers or the regular ones we can just d/l off 3dfx? Could ya also include the driver version? Thanks

Guys, we need more information....you can't leave us hanging on this one! Have you tried adding the Wicked3D MiniGL drivers as well? These make a big difference visually and performance wise with GL games. But if they run with the V5500 drivers we're on to a winner! Go to http://www.wicked3d.com/technology/wickedGL.htm to download. My V3000 should arrive any day so please let us know the driver version you used and any other inf. Thanks.

I just used the ones that came with my v5. No need to get fancy yet :) CD says ver 1.1, no idea if that's what you're looking for. If there are newer and better drivers than those, I'd love to get them.

"15fps MORE in 3dmark."

Not sure what you mean. 3DMark2000? If so, it's not measured in fps, and a 15 increase isn't a whole lot. Do mean the castle or helicopter specifically?

<< They work awesome, and the built in level of detail slider is just an awesome addon! >>

On a V3? I see no 'slider' anywhere? An 'Anti-Aliasing' feature has an Up and Down, but V3s don't have this feature, so it is greyed out.

Am I missing something?

Thanks Paulson, well there's nothing else to do but try it out. Still like to know if the Wicked3D MiniGL drivers make it even better!

Well, I ran the 1.05a drivers, which are omega's hack that incorporates some of the V5 files with the 1.05 files. SLOWED my system down (ever so slightly) in UT, Quake III, and 3DMark2000. Wasted 1.5 hours too, cleaning out my registry, etc. to make sure my old drivers weren't hanging around.

Until people do real benchmarks, I'm not sure I'll believe any of the testimonials. The guy who put the 1.05a together told me that the improvement in OpenGL really was only with the 3dfx drivers not WickedGL so he told me to use them. But that seems like it would be counterproductive, since every other time I've used the 3dfx OpenGL stuff in Quake 3, it's always been sloooooooooowwwww in comparison to the WickedGL drivers. So, you can't compare just to the old 3dfx drivers either. My system is 1.05 plus WickedGL.

I installed those v5 drivers... but I opened up 3dfx tools and they look exactly like the v3 drivers, and it says that I have a v3 card. Did i just install it incorrectly or what?

I just went to add/remove programs and got rid of 3dfx tools, then ran the v5 installer and rebooted. Did i miss a step?

I did the same thing. Installed the 3DFX V5 drivers. Gained about 10 marks in 3D mark 2000. No big deal..

No I had the v3 drivers they released on the 4th of July. So should they look different or do they look the same with just a performance diff?
