V5 and older computers

i just dropped a v5 in my gateway g6 400mhz p2. is this overkill? i read somewhere that to get the best performance outta a v5 you need a newer computer. im just askin cause maybe ill sell it if its not going to do much for my comp.

Not really. You won't get real high frame-rates off the bat, but you'll be able to enabled FSAA with very little performance impact.

It should work fine but don't expect GeForce-like framerates. A 600MHz+ CPU would 'feed' the hungry V5 much better...

I don't know if this is 'overkill'. You should decide for yourself. Start some games and look if you're happy with it.

Actually, dropping it in a slower system is a good use for the FSAA.

Run it at 800x600 and enable the FSAA and it should be nice

The PII-400 is a little underpowered. A 600 with SSE or 3DNow would serve the GPU much better but you're not hurtin it!!

How do you figure that? A fast system starts out fast and then goes slow. A slow system starts out slow and stays slow. I fail to see the reasoning behind why you think the slower system is better.

BFG, I think he was saying that where someone like me, with a near-Gig CPU, when I enable FSAA, I notice the framerate hit

whereas someone like you wouldn't notice it with your half-gig celeron

If you have crap framerates without FSAA and then turn it on and still have crap framerates, how is that &quot;good use of FSAA&quot;? FSAA won't be enjoyable on any system if it runs too slowly.
