3dfx is falling apart. They did do something smart by licensing the tech out. They could never make any money of of it.

As much as I hate to say it, 3dfx hasnt done anything lately. V5 5500 was nice, but nothing like what ATI is doing. Nvidia has not been the innovative god lately, but they are delivering the highest performance products on the market, so they don't need to innovate as much. I fear for the future of 3dfx as a company....

How about call some of your 3dfx pals and ask them!

even the most loyal 3dfx zombie is courious how its possible to get with 4 vs 2 chips al least 4 times more fps then the 2 chip v5500

I DONT BUY IT!

NOBODY BUYS IT!

heh, Hardware remember that thread saying that 3dfx had something up their sleeve? they were talking about the next drivers (version 1.04 for the V5) that will come out, they would have offered HSR, which would theoretically boost the V5 series cards on resolutions 1024X768 and higher.

the results from a V5 5500 @183 from one person here was:
2xFSAA, 183mhz = 17.3 fps (I'm assuming the latest 1.03 drivers with tweaks).

now, double that, and you get 33FPS correct? so theoretically with the same driver set, you get about 33FPS. HSR could increase that to at least 40 FPS, if not more.

if that's not enough, imagine the numbers WITHOUT FSAA..

I personally think that they goofed on the FSAA 2X.. either that, or 3dfx's next driver set will give a much bigger performance boost then I originally thought (perhaps it's not ONLY HSR ala ATi's Radeon?).

Oh relax xtreme2k. Yes, I was just kidding (hence the ever-popular Hardware !CONFIRMED! quote.)
My apologies if I offended you, by calling you Hardware.

I decided to get right to the source. Being as though this article (that NFS4 originally referred to) was not written by 3dfx, I have no idea why you guys are bashing 3dfx.

Nonetheless, I fired off an email to Sam Parker of GamespotPC, the author of that article. I asked him to confirm that what he wrote and what we are discussing was accurate. He told me that after the demo ran through, he did in fact check the system settings. He also confirmed 1600x1200x32 as the resolution/color depth.

Dave, I honestly don't see how it's possible to do 16x12x32 w/2xFSAA @ 65 fps in Q3 on the 6000

1600x1200x16 w/2xFSAA
1600x1200x32 w/o FSAA

yes, those I can see hitting 65 fps (that's about what I expected)

but not 16x12x32 w/2x

no way. that's 100% faster than it "should" be. Drivers can't do that.
