I think I may have to buy one for my trips to Taco Bell since I got rid of the S7.

???????????????????????????????????

The V-12 is heavy and large. It is not fast revving and sporting in nature which is what the M5 is all about. The V-12 is for the lumbering 7-Series. The V-10 is a high-revving monster from the F1 series.

All U.S. spec BMW's are limited to 155 MPH;)

like you can't get around that

and whats the point of limiting it at 155? why not 120? why not 110? heck, might as well make it 85 since thats as fast as you'd need to go to pass someone quickly.

I doubt many owners would bother "getting around" it. Not many people have the opportunity to do 155 MPH in any BMW anywhere in the US unless it's a GT2 class vehicle. And the 155 MPH limit is because of a pact made by German auto makers (Audi, BMW, and Mercedes) to artificially limit their cars to that speed. Of course, Porsche would have no parts in that :D

Well actually, by the time I got to 175 my store would no longer be visible in my rear view mirror especially with three adults clinging to the ceiling.

Thanks for posting this, NFS4. Time is money over here on Ibiza, and I was running out.

Like E65, these new BMWs may be great performers, but what if they're Bangled or can't start because of iDrive? Those are my worries.

*GTa <-- Posting from the 24/7 party island of IBIZA!

You are going to be revving at >16 000RPM? If not, then it's not a high-revving monster from the F1 series.

V12s need not be necessarily heavy (power density), although size is a concern in smaller cars. As with V10s. Besides, V12s are inherently completely balanced, whereas V10s need a balancer shaft installed in the V valley to remove end-to-end vibration. V12s are just two I6s mated together, which are I3s mated together. Since the opposing pistons are always in the same position, end-to-end vibration is nonexistent. I don't know much about vertical vibration. :(

High-revving = ~ 8,000 RPM like the 360 Modena and the S2000. Both are engines made with experience and technology from F1.

I tend to think BMW would want to stick to a low(er than 8000+ RPMs) redline with a beefier power band rather than sticking a high strung, peaky engine into a heavy 4 door sedan, but we'll see :)

I seriously doubt that BMW will have a huge 8.1 liter V-10 like Dodge uses, so the BMW V-10 will have to get higher in the rev range to get some max power.
