Uznipping mysql database

HI.

I have a mysql database for a website and cpanel shows that it is 17MB.

When I unzipped the .gz that was downloaded from cpanel the size of the .sql is 4700 kb. What went wrong? Or did anything go wrong?
 
All I did was use the backup feature in cpanel then I unzipped it. Cpanel only shows one 17MB database. The file that I unzipped turned out to be 4700kb.
