Uverse finally available!

I have friends who've had Uverse for over a year. Apparently within the last few days it finally became available in my area. It's no FIOS, but it's way better than what I've got currently.

I've got Uverse and you're right, it's no FiOS, but it's WAY better than my craptastic DSL. :|

Hello, crappy copper line to the node and fiber from there out.

Copper is capable of a lot.

Fiber is more capable. Remember, we're talking about trying to push out 1080p (with less compression), 30M/5M (at least) internet speeds, and high quality VoIP. That's pretty much what Verizon is offering now or in the not too distance future. They should also have quite a bit of headroom to offer even more. I feel AT&T's infrastructure is BARELY handling what they are offering now, and the copper is the least of their problems.

Now I just have to decide if the NFL Network is worth the "200" plan. The 100 one has pretty much every channel I watch, and a lot more than I expected in HD.

NFL network is definately worth jack squat. You get an extra 4 games a year or some crap like that?

That's what I'm thinking. I have it now on dish network and even during football season I barely watch it.

Unless you are a degenerate gambler who bets on Thursday night games, or you really really enjoy watching cheerleader practice, you don't need NFL network.

The only foreseeable problem is the Colts (my team) play the Jaguars in week 16 on NFL Network. I'm sure I can find somewhere to go to watch the game. The extra $$$ for one game in late December just doesn't seem worth it.

NOw it doesn't matter, the Uverse shopping site is down.

I agree, uverse is a bit bandwidth constrained, however they a basically getting the same market penetration fios is getting and spending 60% less to get there. I have had u-verse for over 2 years now and I am quite satisified with the product/ It is far more reliable than my previous provider. Many of detractors thought they would never be able to HD at all, but now they are pushing 2HD streams. Over the past two years the service has become more capable and I would imagine they are going to be adding more capability in the future.

I can understand wanting Uverse for your ISP, but what makes them better than Dish? Is it the bundle price they offer?

Uverse was absolute garbage. Both line reliability, and the terrible equipment. I'm glad to be back with DirecTV.

They offer more channels for less. Especially the HD part. I dropped HD Dish Network months ago because they offered 3-4 good HD channels and then a bunch of useless crap. No HD Discovery was the really upsetting one, but also things like USA, TLC, etc. And they charged $20 a month extra for it. Uverse is only $10 a month and every channel I would expect to be in HD, is.

I'm more excited about the faster internet speeds, but the TV should be much better as well.

Yes, but don't discount crab's post. His experience is the same as a friend of mine. You should try to find others in your area with the service, and draw your conclusions then.

You might also want to look into Dish's HD offerings now, as they recently added more channels. They also have VOD in 1080p now.

Yes, if the line running from your modem to your D-marc, to the box on the outside of your house, to the line running to your "plant" tap at the hub, to the node are all in good condition. (i.e. squirrels, birds, weathering, underground leakage).

Everyones results vary but I hope the best for you since this is your best option.

Fortunately the people in my area that I know have Uverse do enjoy it. The installers are coming on Sunday.
