I do all my craigslist transactions at a neutral public place. anything with a value over $200, and we meet at the police station. weeds out the scum real quick.

I wouldn't have tried to sell a diamond ring thru a classified ad. But even so that REALLY fscking sucks about that guy. I feel really sorry for him. I'm relativly doubtful that he will get out of the hospital, or if he does it'll only be to kill himself. Sounds like he wants to end it, though you can't really tell his tone since his jaw is all messed up.

True. I don't know either. May be he tried and was rejected from most places? But for something like this to happen during such a period of hardship and desperation is just devastating.

I've bought MANY things from the classfieds (ie well over 100), and all of them have been at people's house.

Why would you want them to know your address? If you are selling one high priced item, chances are you have more. Just asking for a robbery if you ask me.

It's about 1000 times (give or take 10,000) easier to grab a diamond ring and get away with it than a car...
