Utterly despicable examples of the human race!

Just saw this. I'm very angry right now. Thugs like these should be rounded up and fed to the lions on the plains of the Serengeti!

I obviously feel sorry for him, but why didn't he get a job somewhere easier...retail...grocery store? It's money.

Very unfortunate, but not an extraordinary occurrence.

You don't generally invite people into your home when selling stuff out of the classified ads. If possible, be armed as well.

I've seen too many scary characters reply to ads not to be very wary.

qft

I do all my craigslist transactions at a neutral public place. anything with a value over $200, and we meet at the police station. weeds out the scum real quick.

I wouldn't have tried to sell a diamond ring thru a classified ad. But even so that REALLY fscking sucks about that guy. I feel really sorry for him. I'm relativly doubtful that he will get out of the hospital, or if he does it'll only be to kill himself. Sounds like he wants to end it, though you can't really tell his tone since his jaw is all messed up.

Hence the reason why we should build a big rocket ship ASAP and move away from the human race.

... I think that made sense

True. I don't know either. May be he tried and was rejected from most places? But for something like this to happen during such a period of hardship and desperation is just devastating.

But it's the nature of the crime that boils my blood. Take the diamond ring and go! Why do you have to maul his face!!?!!?

Then what do you do? Meet on the street?

I've bought MANY things from the classfieds (ie well over 100), and all of them have been at people's house.

If you ever end up like this guy, I'm sure you'll still think it's safe to invite a stranger into your home.

Besides, just because you meet someone on the street doesn't mean you're going to actually transact any business there. Is it really that hard to walk into a local pizzeria or starbucks?

Oh sure, bring your thousands dollar item to Starbucks to meet strangers. At least in your house, you're under more control. And they don't know what you have in your house. You may have a gun, you may have friends, or a pitbull.

Have you guys had any contact with reality before?

Why would you want them to know your address? If you are selling one high priced item, chances are you have more. Just asking for a robbery if you ask me.

People shouldn't sell cars personally either then, right? Since you're telling people exactly where your car is, and even giving them access to the inside of your car to know what kind of security you have. You're just asking to have your car stolen.

Uh...TMK, it is also popular to sell a car at a neutral site as well.

Man, it must be us Canadians aren't as paranoid as you then. I've never went to a neutral site to check/test drive a car.

It's about 1000 times (give or take 10,000) easier to grab a diamond ring and get away with it than a car...
