Does it really pay to buy a utility program like norton system works or somthing? Or would it be better to just buy individual programs like registry mechanic and diskkeeper to keep my computer optimized? If it pays to buy a bundle pack like the system works, i know there is many different kinds, what one do you recommend, which have u have the best performance with.

Alot of decent freeware around these days. I havent bought anything system specific for years on my Windows boxes. It's best to avoid registry programs too - they usually hurt more than they help.

Try making a list of each task/goal youre trying to achieve and you should find a good freeware solution.

Just trying to optimize, ive always used Adaware and thats a great free ware program, google has norton anti virus for free now adays so i just download that for virus protection, diskkeeper for defragmenting works great but i gotta buy that, i lost my free version i had last year. Registry mechanic worked fantastic at removing registry lines that were invalid but that also costs money, you know just stuff like that.

Cleaning the registry does nothing to optimize performance. I would suggest not even bothering with one, let alone pay money for one.

I consider just about all of those programs snake oil, registry 'cleaners' are more likely to do damage than fix anything and file fragmentation has a very minute affect on performance unless you're doing something that requires extremely high throughput like A/V editing and then chances are you'll have seperate drives to hold that data so it'll be a non-issue there too.
