utility knife cut on finger

it was really more of a stab than a slice....about 3/8" long. Bled like crazy but stops after I apply presssure for 10 minutes or so. but if i move it it will start bleeding again. keep it wrapped for a day or just go to urgent care now?

you know how you're just trying to make that one cut and you know it's a bad idea, but it would be so much faster and cleaner to do it the unsafe way? yeah. ouch.

I did the same thing with an X-acto knife in 5th grade. Sounds like you should go to a doctor.

Yep, make sure it's good and clean(clean with alcohol), then smear a drop of super-glue on it. 😉 It should heal nicely. 🙂

Cauterize it, STAT! Just turn on the stove and when it is about 400, place your finger directly on it for a few seconds.

I've cut my fingers/thumbs pretty damn good a few times in a previous line of work, maybe worse than what you've described. Just clean the cut really good, and keep pressure on it. Use a bandaid to hold the cut together, and that should help it clot. Just switch out the bandaid after a couple of hours. You'll be fine.

I've done that a couple times and didn't go in for stitches, though I should've (bled for several days.) If you have insurance to cover it, go get it looked at. If not, clean it up and bandage it well (maybe a butterfly would work?)

dermabond would be perfect for this, but I have no way to know if they use it there.

I sliced open my thumb pad pretty good installing a car stereo when I was 18 or so. Bout 3/4" long, 1/4-3/8" deep. Still have the scar. I just put pressure on it till it stopped bleeding and kept it wrapped for a while. You won't find me in a hospital unless I'm dying. Even then don't try getting me in if I'm conscious.

Put a band aid on it and go about your business. Geezz some of you guys are pansies.

yeah, used an alcohol swab then neosporin and a standard band-aid is keeping it closed just fine. I'm all good now except for anxious wife and no CS:S.

yep supper glue is fine just hold it together tight after you clean it up and smear some superglue on it and reapply as needed. Make sure you don't try to wipe off the extra with your other finger or something...

Air dry it.

Or have that guy with the carpenter ants send you some and stitch it up with their mandibles.

Anxious wife explains everything. Whenever I come home from work wearing a bandage made out of a paper towel and duct tape my wife won't even look at it. Though she gave up on the whole doctor/stitches idea years ago.

Stitches aren't so bad, you should just go get them. They stay in for about a week or two, and the doctor cuts them out.
