Could anyone recommend a utlity that will determine the exact make, model, size, speed of a hard drive?
Also, could anyone recommend a utility (free software) that checks if a stick of memory is bad?

Thanks...

Most drive mfr's web sites have a utility that will report the drive id. info plus test and/or wipe their drives. Memtest86 is a favorite memory tester here.

Open the case and look at the drive label. :)

Windows Device manager also may show the model, in which case you can look it up on the manufacturer's site for specs.

Best hhd utility I have worked with is GWSCAN from Gateway. Dos based utility that will give you specs of a hhd plus it can run tests on drive if you suspect it's faltering.

Get GWSCAN here...
