The term "cyber sport" makes me lol every time.

UT99 never really needed anything for a sequel other than better graphics, better net code, better user interface and server browser, new game types, and new maps, etc.
The UT99 game play itself was excellent and near-perfect--so why should it change in sequels? The improvements in sequels should take the form of the trimmings surrounding the game. Chess is a great game and folks have played it for hundreds of years and no one complains that the game hasn't changed. So why should the Unreal Tournament game play change? It's less of a one-time-play RPG or adventure game and more of an online bloodsport where you improve your skills over time. People still play basketball and that game hasn't changed at all, so why should an online bloodsport like Unreal Tournament change?
If you don't know what I'm talking about...maybe you never played the real UT99...maybe you never played it in an organized clan match or pickup game match. Unreal Tournament is not a disposable computer game--rather it's an online cyber sport--so why should the game play change whenever an improved version is released?

UT3's gameplay feels almost identical to UT2004. It seems more like a graphical update rather than a new game to me.
That's not really bad thing though...

If you never participated in a clan or competed in a clan match, then maybe you should sign up for the next Major League Unreal Tournament (MLUT) competition and then you could gain a better understanding of what's meant by "cyber sport".

BS, whole books could be written on what's wrong with UT3. I preordered the game, and according to xfire, I've only played 33 hours. Why? Because the game isn't fun. Most of those 33 hours were spent tweaking my setup. I bet I don't have 15 hours of actual gaming. My favorite of the series so far is UT2k4, but I'd rather play any version other than UT3. The only game I can even tolerate is IG DM, and I only play that so I don't feel like I wasted $60. I like 2k4 IG better.
As far as TF2 stealing UT3's thunder goes...That's a red herring. Why didn't UT3 steal TF2's thunder? Everybody points to other games, and says they're the reason UT3 isn't being played. Why aren't the other games being neglected for UT3? It doesn't take a marketing expert to figure that one out...
Did you play UT99? And why didn't UT3 steal TF2's thunder? Well first you have to know your history, TF was around before UT existed so a successful sequel meant a 10 ton guerrilla in the FPS gaming world. And TF2 is a successful sequel. It may not be everything TF1 was, but it's damn good and people are finding matches very easily over Steam as opposed to finding matches on the abortion that shipped with UT3.
I stick to my original comment, UT3s community will thrive instead of dying out.

About the PUG matches, what time(EST) do you usually play? Is there also any skill requirement? I can play against masterful bots fine. I usually spend a lot more in UT99 playing coop and single player map packs, so I'm probably not as good as the guys who have been playing online since the game came out.

im so depresesd. i really like this game and there's only like one or two DM servers around on the east coast.i really hope the community picks up or else im going to go cry. UT is the only twich fps series (eg. quake, ut, tribes) that is still around, since quake 4 was abysmal and tribes no longer exists... i'm so tired of realistic shooters (CSS, BF, COD... etc)
A lot of people have left the UT and Quake series in favor of more slow paced newbie friendly games.

I need a little help in the single player campaign. I'm stuck on about the 6th level (or so) where my red-team must take over the blue-teams nodes or something like that.
Its like the third level of this type of game play, anyway, my team is getting freaking owned!! its the level where there is a bridge in the middle of the land and if you team controls that part you can get an extra flying craft (I think LOL)
So could someone explain the idea of this game? there were times when I had the node and went to the blue-teams area and then ran over their blue beam and I got a message saying that I can't do that yet...please assist if you can!! thanks for helping guys/gals!

I dont care if the game sucks or not. I wont be playing it.
2007 and early 2008 have had more than enough good games and good expansions to keep me busy.
I'm not gonna dish out good cash for a new title that isnt really new and takes a small step backwards in playability.

So, for those of you who do like UT3, why don't you like regular weapons no vehicles CTF? That was the premier game in UT99 and it was very successful. I'm guessing that part of it is a lack of good custom maps.
