UT3 DX10

Not that I'm aware of. Shouldn't be much of a difference if it did. Especially considering that you can get near DX10 quality in DX9 Crysis with a little hack. And much faster game performance than true DX10...

unr3al is correct. It was supposed to get a D3D10 renderer for proper anti-aliasing support, but that was moved from the shipping version to a patch. That patch has never and probably will never come.

There is a 'AllowD3D10=True' variable in the ini file- I assumed that it was indeed active. How can it be confirmed that there is no DX10 support?

Run FRAPS, it'll tell you what's being used. That flag has always been in the INI file, and always inactive.

The 1.3 patch is supposed to include the D3D 10 support. The patch will be coming out it about a month, or so it's rumored. The patch is mainly for better developer support (which is good for me 😀)

then why does ut3 looks so much better when played on vista with a 3850 rather than xp with x1900xtx. both had same settings

thats interesting , do u have some screens ?

It does both DX9 or DX10 modes, & will switch to whichever, depending on your system.

Or you can go into the .ini & force one or the other.

For AA to work, you need to be in DX10 mode though, at least last time i checked.

I'd have to reinstall to double check (just reinstalled OS on new mobo), but AA is the main benefit of DX10, otherwise it doesn't really look any better AFAIK.

Maybe cause the HD 3850 is a whole 2 generations ahead of the X1900XTX and is a much faster card that allows better framerates and higher settings?

Just a wild guess.

Not to mention better Image Quality?

Only because the Engine ups graphics quality.

No. I built the HD3850 system for my friend and I played the Ut3 demo under Vista on max settings and it look extremely good, smashed XP.
I play it on my comp with the X1900XTX with all the settings on max, and it doesn't look close to waht I saw with the 3850

UT3 automatically scales video quality if the framerate gets too low. You have to disable it in the INI file to get comparable results.

its the card, not the os as i have a copy of UT3 on both machines and one uses an X1900XTX and the other a 3870 - see sig

Technically its only one generation ahead when we consider the HD3850 is an R600 family chip vs. the R500 family X1900XTX...

its a great game and its good to see more people playing CTF 🙂

the servers i see populated are:
8.6.74.96:7777:6500 Flag Junkies CTF USA
208.122.52.228:7777:6500 Quads Death CTF USA
74.63.66.156:7777:6500 The Mad House CTF USA

is this game actually getting populated now? I bought this game shortly after it came out because I loved teh demo; big mistake. Online was a complete ghost town, was so discouraged by the lack of players that I switched to COD4 and havent looked back. If its getting populated now I will have to check it out again.

Mentioning only three servers that are populated doesnt boost my confidence though..... 3 populated servers in UT3 versus hundreds of populated servers in COD4!

Flag Junkies is a USA EST Capture the flag server and you can usually find people on it between 6pm - 12am, for the most part those other servers are USA EST ctf servers and there may be people playing on them if Flag Junkies is full - add them to HLSW

EDIT: i have played all through out the day off and on in flag junkies with other players, sometimes getting close to full (during the day)
