Criticism isn't simply stating my movie sucks and is uninteresting. That's an opinion. Criticism would be telling me what I could do better, so I can wow you guys next time (there will be another movie in a few weeks). It's no big deal, though, as I know who I have to win over now 🙂.

Anyway, I'd like to know what the specs are on your computer Blurredvision?
Athlon 2400+
1GB PC2100 RAM
GeForce4 Ti4400
KT333 Soyo Plat. Ed. mobo w/on-board audio

Those are the basics. I normally play on 1280x1024 with everything turned up (AA on 2xQ), and I get around 30 fps. When recording with fraps, however, I turn the AA off, and go to 800x600. When recording, I get usually around 20fps, which dips into the low teens at times. This is why some in this thread think I suck, as it's hard to aim with a lower fps. Plus, with fraps eating up all kinds of hard drive space, I didn't have too much footage to work with. There was probably about 50-60 minutes of footage I had to get a 4+ minute video from, which some of you may know isn't that much.

Just a note to anyone, I'll be happy to prove my skills anytime. 😀 And if I'm not able to beat you, I'll guarantee I make one helluva teammate.

just did a quick one... type demorec (filename) at the console...

here's mine ... it's like 10 minutes and only 1.5 MB 😀

You have to throw the *.demo4 file in your \UT2004\Demo folder and access it through the game main menu --> Community --> Demos... and play from there.. it's a pretty cool feature.

You can actually create an AVI from the same menu afterward, but I didn't have time to wait for it to finish. Peace.

Now this IS just video of someone playing, more-so that I've been accused of 🙂. The demo>avi feature will be fixed in the first patch, but there's one thing I don't like about it, it doesn't show the weapon in the demo playback. I have the newest beta patch for UT2K4, and the demo>avi works great, just the absence of the weapon sucks.

Ya, that's true 😉, but these are two very different types of files. When you record a demo while playing UT2K4, it saves the data based not on video, but just plain data (data that defines where you move and where you shoot and so forth). So when you go back to play the demo, it uses the actual UT2K4 graphics engine to grab that data, and automatically play out what you saw. I guess it's kinda hard to explain, but that's the reason for the huge difference in file size.

I think we all know how the 10 minute video is only 1.5MB 🙂 not too difficult to understand 😉

wow I just realized your 162MB file is only 4 minutes long. A standard 4-min DIVX should only be about 30MB... but your resolution is high (try dropping it to 320x280 (or something similar) and also drop the framerate (15fps is acceptable). Other than that, I think it's the music you threw in. 😀

Hey what is supposed to be fixed with the Create Demo AVI ? I just tried it and the AVI has no sound and plays at a ridiculously fast speed. Is that what's supposed to be fixed ?

I'm new to movie encoding and DiVx, so thanks for the tips. I do have the resolution at 720x480, as it will soon be going on a DVD I'm working on (just for the fun of it). Next vid I'll drop the res. And will 15fps be sufficient and not choppy?

Thanks.

I encoded most of my divx vids at 15fps. It's fine and smooth for personal viewing. You can test one out yourself first...

Right now, the demo>avi has two problems. One of them is the playback at double speed. The second is the issue of it not recording in the resolution you choose. You can choose to record at 800x600, but it will still record in the lowest 320x240 (or whatever the lowest is). Those two things will be fixed.
