I didn't download the demo, does it run as well as UT2K3? I would assume maybe a bit slower cuz of the huge maps but the graphics look the same otherwise...

It runs great for me. Your best bet is to download the demo yourself. It's an great demo, you won't be disappointed.

Yup, probably the best demo ever made. I've been playing Onslaught non-stop. It'll be weird having more maps other than Torlan. I can even imagine what types of Mods are going to come out with the vehicles and the size of the Maps.

If only this game was able to support 64 players, oh my god, talk about insane good times. Tribes was able to do it, but that game jsut never did it for me.

I'm just glad, on my 56k, that I can finally play 32 players with bots. The previous bot limit was only 16, sucked for 56kers.

Hehe yeah its gonna be good and the demo is amazing I love onslaught... also the price of the SE is the same as regular so who wouldn't buy the SE (except for those without dvd drives cause they are too lazy to install one).

The demo runs great on my system, in the sig... but the demo compared to the retail version may run a bit differently.... following in a portion of the readme from the demo...

0.2 Features of the demo compared to the full version
------------------------------------------------------

The full game differs in the following ways compared to this demo:

* Textures in the full game are, on average, 2X higher resolution
than in the demo. The textures in the demo were reduced because
of download size limitations.

* The full game includes over 100 maps, compared to the 5 in the demo.

* The full game includes over 80 characters, versus 4 in the demo.

* The demo only supports "instant action" mode, Internet and LAN play.
The full version also contains the new single-player ladder, enabling you
to play through the game while managing a team roster.

* The demo doesn't include the Unreal editor and content-creation tools
which ship with the final game, enabling you to build new levels, modify
existing ones, and create game mods.

* The demo doesn't include any mutators, but the full version includes
over 20 mutators offering new variations on gameplay.

Is the full version very different from the demo?

Tried the demo, and it seemed like UT2K3 with nicer graphics to me.
I might add that I didn't like UT2K3 either, the original UT was the only good one in the series IMO.

I understand the install is huge....I think I read somewhere that there is 6 CDs (1 DVD for the DVD version) containing 5 or 6 gig of material.

2k4 feels a lot more like UT than 2k3 did. It's hard to put a finger on what exactly they changed, but it just has that classic UT feel to it. Not to mention the inclusion of vehicles along with assault and onslaught. Try the game again, it definitely isn't just 2k3 with nicer graphics.

The major differences I noticed between 2003 and 2004 is that the field of view is much greater (=better) in 2004. In 2003 you had players jumping in and out of you sight in an instant. 2003 sucked because it was just a twitch fest. 2004 is similar to UT (original) in that the field of view is similar but very dissimilar in that the speed of the game is much faster.

They made the weapons smaller for sure, as well as the character model size.

I think this was the biggest thing missing from 2k3, the proportions were just all wrong IMO.

Yeah. At any rate, the changes they made go a long way in putting the "ut" back into ut2k4.
