UT2K4 Problem

I recently built the following machine:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Winchester) @ 2.33GHZ
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
PDP 1GB PC3200 XBL Memory (Samsung TCCD) @ DDR466 2-3-3-10
BFG 256MB 6800GT OC PCIe Video Card
Enermax 600W Noisetaker PSU

The problem I am having is that when I play UT2K4, with the latest patch, I can play for hours, but as soon as I am done, I get a BSOD with an IRQ message on it. In all other games I do not have a single problem, Far Cry, HL2, Doom 3, etc. I was wondering whether there is something I need to change in order to fix this problem, or whether it was a known issue, or what.

Thanks for any help!

DUDE i have the same problem! whenever i exit the game, or ALT-tab out of it and back into it, i get a BSOD and my system restarts. i have the latest version also. obviously, this is an issue that needs fixing.
thanks for posting, i thought i was alone 😀

You need to disable DEP

This is a known problem with an A64 and UT 2004

Indeed. Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Startup and Recovery Settings -> Edit -> Change the text that states "/noexecute=OptIn" to "/noexecute=AlwaysOff".

Done.

wow you guys are great. do you know if i turn it off for ut2004.exe only, would that work? or do i have to turn it off completely?
i dont want to turn it off completely if i dont have to. could they release a patch that fixes it?
thanks a ton,
nick

Yep, i set it to "Turn on DEP for all apps except ones listed", found the exe, and it works. but could this cause problems in other apps do you think?

edit: i was wrong, it didnt actually work. im just going to turn it off completely.
thanks

wow i just realized you got ahold of a 6800GT PCI-E. i thought those were basicly impossible to find.
good find 😀

I had the same problem, my system is amd 64 3200+ 6800nu vid card 1 gig pc 3200

U2k4 would run fine, until I minimised it, or exited the game, rebooted about 75 percent of the time,, this drove me nuts!! Tried the dep fix, with no success, even reinstalled the game with earlier patches, same thing..finally i installed a different version of forceware driver, because I was at my wits end, and, bang, no more reboots, works perfect. I did recently reformatt and add sp2, which is where my problem first started.. running fine now..with 71.20 drivers.. hope this helps

wow guys, thanks for all the replies! I got the problem fixed by using the DEP exception for UT2004.exe! I appreciate all the help!

haha, yea, I thought they were impossible as well, but I got mine right before Christmas when Chumbo had justp ut them in stock. Best part I only had to pay 399.99!

Nvidia's drivers = ghay (IMO).

I am still using their ancient 61.77s since every driver since has acted up with my comp (& UT2k4) even with DEP disabled.

yeah nvidia drivers have some issues...hl2 has white lines on my comp with AA enabled, and this happens on my friends comp too.

Run a repair on the game using the disc. Then repatch it.

not the fix.. if you google this problem, you will find you need to change something in your system properties in the control panel... i had to do it for my game to not reboot my PC as well.
