Ugh, that's where I'm going wrong... I haven't bought the special Fatal1ty branded 1.9ms (cause .1ms matters!) LCD yet! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, John!

Learn the maps, learn the respawn times of the powerups, and memorize good routes to hit the powerups as soon as they respawn. Kind of reminds me of Pac-Man. After that it's just practice.

Never played UT 2k4, but I'm very good at CSS and was very good at Quake 2, so here are some general tips.

Every time you die, ask your self why did I die? How could I have played those last few seconds better? The easy answer is you just didn't aim as well as the other guy, but usually there's more to it than that. Eventually you'll train yourself not to make the same mistakes.

Keep adjusting your mouse sensitivity to find out what works best for you. I think most people have their sensitivity too high.

Set up your keys to make maximum use of the keys around wasd or whatever you use for movement. You don't want to have to reach all the way to the 7 or 8 keys to get your rocket launcher out. Being able to switch weapons easily is important in a game like UT, because if you hit someone with like 3 rockets and you know they're almost dead, you want to be able to switch to a minigun or something to take off that last bit of health.

Watch good players and think about what they're doing and what makes them good.

I think my main problem is aiming while jumping, I need to work on that alot.

Don't bunny hop. That makes it very easy to know where you'll end up, and you'll be headshot or have rockets waiting for you on landing.Dodge jump to move around the map fast, and dodge at irregular intervals while dueling so your position is harder to accurately predict.

Honestly, some of the people I am playing against have just as limited experience as I do. And I am not saying they are good, but they seem able to kill me easy enough. It doesn't matter if I try jumping, running, strafing, they are still shooting and hitting me and I am missing them. I am better off standing still and trying to shoot them, maybe I will die, but there is a better chance I will get a kill then any other way I have found.

It seems like some of these guys are able to hit me once or twice and I am gone, yet I have to shoot at them forever to kill them. I can't believe I am this bad. I tried lowering the sensitivity of my mouse from 3 down to 2, hasn't seemed to help

Some people are just better at games than others are. I had a friend growing up that could pwn any arcade game after playing for a week. He'd get on a machine and be there forever. I was just average. The arcades got a lot of quarters from me

I'm not sure what you're using for weaps, but shock has the most damage per second 45hp per hit and a fast refresh. The lightning gun does the most damage per shot 70 hp for a body shot and 140 for a headshot. Add double damage for a poor mans ig rifle . Mini is best for finishing an opponent. Hit with lightning or shock first, then finish with the mini. Mini has 7hp per bullet, both alt and primary fire I believe. Alt fire has a tighter grouping with a slower fire rate for distance shots, while primary has a higher rate of fire with a larger grouping which is better for close range.

If you aren't good at hitscan weaps practice with rockets or flak. Get a good feel for lobbing flak shells at a moderate distance. Save the primary fire for very close range. It loses effectiveness quickly as range increases due to spread of the flak shards. Aim for the feet when using rockets and frag them with splash damage. anticipate where they'll be and have rockets waiting there for them. Also if you can anticipate where a player will be load up 3 rockets and hit them with that.

It takes lots of practice, as everyone has already said. Lots of good tips here. What helps to remember is always be moving, practice weapon accuracy while on the move, practice simple dodge jumps and wall jumps, know your weapons and how to use both primary and alternate fire modes, know which weapons to use in certain situations, use your keybinds for instant access to the right weapon, know the maps and where the pickups, shields, health and double damage is and learn your best to time them. I'm primarily an ONS player, and while I don't worry so much about the pickups and such, I do know the maps. If you play ONS, learn the vehicles too.

Teabag em if u go 1v1! I haven't played UT2K4 in a long time, but I'm quite proficient at CSS .... and use cover to its fullest ability.

You dodge by double tapping the key that corresponds with the direction you want to dodge in. Example if you use D as your move right key, double tap that to dodge right.

Dodge jump is the same, but you add a jump in to get extra distance. To move around the map quick you can dodge jump while moving forwards.

Example for doing a right hand dodge jump:

run forwards
turn 45 degrees left
double tap right movement key
press jump button

This moves you around the map faster than running or jumping by themselves, and keeps you moving in a more or less forward direction.

Wall dodge example. This moves you far across a room quickly:

put the left side of your body against a wall
double tap your right movement key
press jump button

This will move you away from the wall farther than you would by doing a normal dodge jump. Useful for a surprise attack, or moving away from an enemy fast.

One last dodge type move

Climbing ramps:

You have a sloping piece of metal leaning up against a higher level. (these were featured in DM_Rankin)
face the ramp at the bottom
double tap your forward movement key
double tap your jump button

This will allow you to climb the ramp, and can be used as a shortcut or quick escape to a higher level in a map.

To get good at UT2k4, join a game that I'm in, and study my tactics carefully...

...then avoid those tactics like your life depended on it! That's bound to help!

In DM, I do enjoy heaving a Lime-Jello Gun secondary glob right at people, or into the midst of a brawl. That thing rocks  Also, if you have enough ammo, try a bit of guesswork shooting, especially with area-effect weapons like Flak, Jello or Shock secondary or combo. Listen to what's going on, take a few guesses, predict what you can, take advantage of it.

In indoor maps, you might try luring people into chasing you around a corner into a hallway or something, while spooling up your Rocket Launcher or Lime-Jello Gun. Fire back down the hallway before they appear, and see if you time it right so they run around the corner and right into your oncoming salvo. Even if they don't take a direct hit, you might inflict a lot of splash damage. Shock Combo would work well for that too.

On outdoor maps, you can also try for missile lock with the Rocket Launcher, if you have a long line of sight to someone. Especially if they won't notice you launching the attack because of your distance.
