Anyone else notice the demo disks for sale at bestbuy have NOT FOR SALE written across the top in bold letters? Pretty shady if you ask me. I wonder if the publishers know about that.

How much? Probably cost a $0.01. BestBuy did the same thing with the Half-Life demo way back when.

Take pics! :D

Edit - I remember seeing this for another game that was a free download. Someone printed up a "This game is free from the following sites" page, and stuck it up there. :D

IIRC they charge you the penny to be able to track the inventory. Don't know if they actually make you give them a penny though.

I wish I could just sit at BB and see if anyone actually buys it. Then I would walk around behind them and just laugh at them while pointing.

haha those idiots. someone should burn downloaded copies of the demo and give them away for free at BB just to piss them off or something.

I think it is to cover shipping, burning, and advertising/shelf cost. I am pretty sure the publisher knows about it.

I remember America's Army was on sale at BB as well(don't remember the price). That game was always meant to be free, even in the full version.

1) the publisher has to know about it, best buy is a huge corporation (public too) they wouldn't do something as sneaky as that.
2) it's probably for people that don't have fat pipes.

i'd have to agree. This isn't shady or just for idiots. Its for those who don't have the capability to download such large files from the net. Someone with a 56K modem and noone else to get the file for them will gladly pay just $5 for the disk, be it demo or not, that is if they really want it.

And yes, I bet the $5 is to cover the expense of getting it to the shelves for peoples to buy. Not only that, it may be for market testing purposes.

Rather than laugh at someone for buying it, why not offer to download it for them and mail it to them. Then again, for all that work, you might want $5 too.

This is a good thing- the more people that get the demo now, the more people that will buy the game later.

the demo is HUGE and it has what 5 full maps with all the modes of game play plus a vech. you can drive? UT2k4 is one of the actual "demos" that would be worth me spending 5 bucks on. Hell, I downloaded the UT2k3 demo and played it for a month. I've paid 40 bucks for a full game that I beat in 2 days and never touched again :)

they shouldn't be $5 if they say NOT FOR SALE at the top. should be a penny like the HL demo

Yeah, it's entirely possible to get more hours out of the UT2k4 demo than both the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2 combined. You could even throw call of duty in there.

Exactly, the demo is still free, but the disk it is on is not free.
