UT2004 - Critical Error - Cannot get past main menu

I've been playing Unreal Tournament 2004 for a few weeks now with little to no problems. Every once in a while i'll get a freeze up and have to restart...no big deal. Now, every time i try to start the game, i cannot get past the main menu. A critical Error dialog box opens up with the following....

UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2004-03-03_02.42]

OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: AuthenticAMD PentiumPro-class processor @ 1907 MHz with 511MB RAM
Video: RADEON 9500 (Omega 2.5.51) (6451)

General protection fault!

The official site recommends updating video driver - did it
updating sound driver - did it
stop programs in background - did it
I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times to no avail.

Nothing works. The game will not get past the main menu.

Its the DVD version of the game. CPU = Barton 2500 on Nforce Epox 8rda+
Graphics card = Ati RADEON 9500 with latest Omega Drivers

Does anyone have any ideas? Its very hard for me to understand how it can just stop working for no reason.
Thank you for anyone that can help me.

Every once in a while i'll get a freeze up and have to restart...no big deal.

Actually, this is a big deal. If the system completely locks up (as in not even <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Del> does anything, and you don't get a blue screen), then there's a pretty serious issue. The most likely causes:
1. You're overclocking.
2. You're overheating.
3. Video, audio or chipset driver problem or DirectX problem.

Other causes:
1. Dirty power (unlikely)
2. Physically damaged video card, RAM, or motherboard (somewhat unlikely)

Don't use those - use the latest Catalyst 4.6 drivers from ATi.

Also don't overclock anything and make sure you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system.
