UT2003 so far a dissappoint

I am really pissed they didn't pump up the graphics. Sure it's got more polys, but everything else is crappy. No bump-mapping, pixel-shading. This was supposed appease the graphics whore in me.

I beg to differ. If you look at the water in the first DM map (Antalis i think) that is definitely pixel shaded. Looks awesome. I have been playing pretty much all night. Here's the deal:

- default run speed is slower (intentional)
- weapons have been tweaked; e.g. the flak cannon has a narrower spread, rockets do less splash damage, cant fire multiple rockets at once, minigun takes a few seconds to spin-up
- server browser is vastly superior to the original UT
- graphics are far superior
- game physics seem better/more realistic

However, it does seem a lot like Q3A...gimmicky "monster-truck-voice" announcer, big red/green lettering...but i definitely think it does things better.

To respond to NFS, I agree to some extent...i haven't played BF1942 but it sounds kinda like the original Tribes sorta...with vehicles and all...i loved that game. However, some of the mods for UT more than made up for that: Jailbreak for instance....very fun. Capture the chicken for Q2 - perhaps the most fun mod ever (anyone remember that?). Well I will be playing Ut2K3 but maybe i should give this BF a try too.

Not disappointed - the Unreal Warfare engine looks very nice. However, I quickly get bored playing the 'bots (as in the UT original) and just don't like online play due to my extra slow 56K dialup.

I will pass on this one but am looking forward to single player Unreal II (same engine, right?).

The full game will have 2x larger textures. It will definately look much better.

I supose I'm going to need another 64mb of texture memory to swap those giant textures fast enough :-/

The game looks great, seems like a lot of fun, but I think I'll need to upgrade my video card to make it run as fast I want it to run with all the eye-candy on.

Currently have GF3-Ti200.

Theres nothing like a good excuse to upgrade your video card....

Personally I'm glad the textures will be larger in the full version. My ti4400 might become more useful.

Man, everyone's going nuts over BF1942. For a game I didn't hear about until last week, it seems to be the most "hyped" game of the year so far. Everyone I've talked to is completely raving about it.
