om 1 and 2 you are contradicting yourself... slow paced? find a server that has bumped up the speed... and yes there is a translocator... the server admin might have disabled it, but it is there...

slow? it seems faster paced than UT to me. I was playing around with 8 bots and it was constant non-stop action
there is a translocater
smoe of the weapons are the same yeah, but why mess with a good thing. don't you kinda contradict yourself with points 1 and 2? hehe. i thought the new sniper rifle was pretty cool

oh, and we already have like half a dozen UT threads don't we? :p

BF1942 4eva!!!!!!!!!!!!:p:D

UT2003 is just the same old mindless point and shoot boringness that it always has been (Q3, UT, etc). At least you have to use your brain in BF1942 :D

BF1942 rocks.

UT2k3 is good.

That's only a few of the weapons in the game, and they don't look perfect because the demo textures are only 1/2 of the resolution you'll be able to get in the final version of the game.

The sniper rifle ("lightning gun") looks different, but works exactly the same. Takes a couple body shots to kill, or just 1 headshot. Too bad about the reload time, though. I guess that was just to prevent sniper whores.

Translocator IS there, just not on every server.

You can speed up the game however fast you would like.

Try exploring the demo a little more. I think you'll like it better.

Yeah, I used to play UT...I don't anymore b/c I quickly got tired of the same old sh!t over and over again (point shoot fire, point shoot fire, hide snipe shoot--rinse and reuse). At least with BF1942, you have a vast variety of things to do.

Anyway, BF1942 is a much more complete (and better game IMHO). As I was telling Mad Indian on ICQ last night, I had a mad killing spree going on in BF1942:

I sniped a guy in the back of the head as I lay prone on top of a hill. I then climbed into a Jeep nearby and drove down to the airfield about 1/2 mile down the road. I hopped out of the Jeep and tossed about 4 grenades behind a tank that was just f*&king around (there was no gunner, so he was an easy kill...damn newbies;)). I blew up the tank that ran over to a Corsair F4U Navy fighter. I took off and flew over to the Japanese carrier. I made a few passes over the carrier dropping a few bombs and nailing a few planes on the deck. Anti-aircraft flak then hit my plane and it started smoking so I bailed out. I landed on their deck and went Rambo on them before I caught a rocket launcher up the ass.

Now THAT is pure gaming bliss:p:p

Exactly. Too bad BF1942 has its share of bugs too.

Yeah, hit detection is kinda iffy, but they should solve that with the next patch. Other than that, I can't find much else to fault with the game. I'm just waiting for the price come down. I can't swallow $39.99 right now for it...especially since I just paid $26.95 for Hexacto Baseball Addict for my PocketPC and I have Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 on preorder :D

I am really pissed they didn't pump up the graphics. Sure it's got more polys, but everything else is crappy. No bump-mapping, pixel-shading. This was supposed appease the graphics whore in me.

I guess I've just never been a fan of that type of FPS game. When I want something that'll challenge me a little, I will play a strategy game. I play FPS games for just killing :)

For straight non-stop fragging, nothing has beat the dynamics of Quake 2, imo. UT was good, but still not quite the same. I like UT2k3, but I get quickly bored.

BF1942 on the other hand............................................... I could play that all day long!!! :D

I could play the same map on BF1942 all day and still have fun. Too bad the video is jumpy on my new system :(

Yeah, I'm waiting for the price to drop and/or a patch to come out to fix the hit detection issues. I've played the demo at my friend's place and loved it.

Not ever have played UT, I downloaded the new demo to see what all the fuss was about.

Not all that impressed. It felt a lot like Q3 Arena.

ut2k3 = q3 on pcp

The game seems nice enough, but its the same old gimic. Fast paced blabh blah and there is nothign wrong with that, but I don't think it is in the GOTY race. BF1942 on the other hand was the first game in a while that we tried out at a lan and ended up playing for 5 hours srtaight without noticing the time.

no no, gaming bliss was the time I took of from the carrier in the demo, slowed down over a point and bailed out. Well after I captured the point I got ready to grab the tank and take off down the road. But to my surprise I see that I bailed out in such a way and at such a speed that my plane landed itself on the roadway. Got back in my zero and just drove down the rode toward their point, freaked the hell out of 3 allies in a jeep. Even managed to run into them as they dodged and no die. Got out of the plane ran back some and blew all of the suckas up. Their reaction when they saw a plane barelling down on them was just great.

Other than the graphics and physics it feels the same as UT to me. Got bored quite quickly of the SP mode. I'm gunna give it a go online and see if it is any better. At this stage, I'm not convinced I wanna go buy it yet! :frown:
