UT2003 + MeM upgrade ??

how much of a difference do you think you would notice in upgrading from 256 to 512mb of ram when playing this game ??
increased fps ?
better map load/reload times ?
less slow downs or studdering during game play ?

anyone had experience with such an upgrade and compared their UT2003 gaming ??

thanks in advance

With 612 there should be no swapping to the hard drive, although according to the readme there is very little with 256. What are you running it on?

If your running Windows XP than 512MB is the sweet spot as 256MB just won't be enough. 256MB is the optimum for Windows 9x/ME.

It's actually my uncle's system
here are the specs:

win2k
athlon xp 1700+
256mb ddr 2700 (at 266 1:1 with fsb with fastest latencies)
asus a7v333
using onboard sound
40gb 7200rpm maxtor drive
Radeon 8500 128mb

I'm pretty sure his processor is the most limiting factor in the game
messing with texture detail and resolution has little to no effect on performance
UT2003 takes a long time to start and to load levels
I was just wondering how increasing the mem to 512 might affect performance
I wonder what kinda hit the onboard sound does to the game. I didn't have enough time to play with everything.....

sometimes i wish i had a wearhous of parts just so i could swap things in and play around

dang I gotta get my own system up and running that will play UT2003
this laptop with a broken cdrom drive just don't cut it.......

anyone else have any cool stuff to throw in this conversation ??

what kinda systems have you guys run UT2003 on ??

I play the UT2003 demo on my system frequently to test out new tweaks I introduce to the system. Pertinent specs:
AthlonXP 1900+ not overclocked
Epox 8K3A+
512MB Mushkin High Perf. PC2100 with very fast timings (2-6-2-1)
GF4 Ti 4200 128MB @ 250/500 Det. 30.82
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz 4161s drivers
Maxtor 40GB ATA133 2MB cache (acoustic management on)
WinXP Pro SP1

With game resolution set to 1024x768x32 with every video quality option maxed out, 3D sound hardware enabled (not EAX), and Best Performance selected in the Direct3D section of the NVidia Control Panel I get a max. of about 75fps and a miniumum of about 40fps. I use Fraps to monitor the fps and the average tends to be in the upper 50s. This seems like a decent score for my specs.

Anyone had experience running UT2003 on the same system with varying memory amounts ??
what kinda systems you people running UT2003 on ??

I played it for the first two days with 256 megs untill my other stick came. I added another 512. I noticed very little difference, but i wasn't up to the levels where there were a whole lot of opponents for the system to keep track of (all the players in the game, their weapon count etc... it makes a big difference when you get into a level with 8 characters instead of two).

Athlon 2100, crucial 2700 for both sticks, radion 8500
