I've been playing it for two days straight now. The game is absolute genius. I've had a few bugs here or there, but I'm going to forgive it for the time being because of how damn good the game is.

I dont think the demo is a good enough representation of how insane the new maps are.

Face3 is insanity. You have to see it to believe it. Same with magma. Plunge, basically Morpheus2, makes the original look like a joke. I think it is going to be a long time before the amateur mappers can come even close to the crazy stuff they pulled off in this game. The background on the mars base puts any skybox to shame.

Gameplay is different enough, yet similar enough. I prefer it to the old UT for sure.

And considering the gfx, the engine runs at a damn fast speed. No other game can even come close to this. You might need to upgrade for it, but its damn worth it.

There may be a slight lack of originality for gameplay modes, after all its still DM, CTF, DOM and the new bombing run (which is damn fun). But what you get is perfection, not originality.

how fast is your system? Only reason I haven't picked this up yet is out of fear that my geforce3 won't be able to handle it :(
I've heard people are getting like 30-40 fps because of the bigger textures.

Do you notice any improved textures vs the demo?

There was a lot of speculation about whether or not the demo had full quality textures, I'm curious whether the rumor regarding higher res textures was accurate.

The Demo ran fine on a system with Athlon XP 1800+ and a Geforce2 GTS.

Has a problem with Kyro2 cards, tho

Yeah, it is. I've been talking to some people who say the textures in the demo were nothing compared to the ones in the full version. Can't tell you from firsthand experience yet, though.

BF 1942 which I just got, UT2003 and Tekken 4.

I need to quit my job and become a full time gamer.

Yup ... textures are much better in full version. Unless you used the UltraHigh mode in the demo ... in which case they're just "better", not "much better".

Either way, you can dig into the 128MB on your brand new gF4/Radeons if you crank the detail to max on everything. :D

Excellent. :)

Both my roommate & I have 128 mb video cards (I have a GF4, he has a GF3).

I guess we finally get to use it.

Textures are definitely better, and I had absolutely no performance problems enabling the higher ones. 128mb ram helps.

Played just fine on my GFs GF3, so dont worry about it. Just dont try playing with AA or anything. Leave that to the GF4.

I can run this on my current setup pretty well :

Athlon 800@950
256MB PC133
Geforce4 TI 4200 (300/500)
Audigy...
blah blah...

It runs, but man, I think I'm going to order new stuff today :Q

And it is a ton of fun. However, there aren't too many low ping servers yet :\

The speed issues with Kyro2 cards are solved with DirectX8.1b. The only other issue you could be referring to is with texture compression. The Kyro cards only support DXT1 texture compression, while UT2003 uses, I think, DXT3 format.

I have a Kyro2 and the UT demo ran pretty well with medium settings at 800x600.

CPU & memory should be your upgrades, it's quite playable on my system & I have a 4200 running at default speeds.

I have a P4 1.8 running at 2300 though, and 512 MB of Corsair DDR.

Yeah, I'm probably going to order a XP2000/Mobo/512DDR later.

This game isn't the only reason... I get virtual memory errors all the time when I play Battlefield :|

We tried playing on Saturday night, but the 2 guys with Kyro cards got DirectX error crashes and wouldn't even let them into the game.

They are running DirectX 8.1, but not rev. b.

Runs smooth with no problems on my laptop w/ Radeon 7500 mobility. Also runs great on my Radeon 8500DV. You should be fine with a GF3 assuming you have a decent cpu.

where did you guys get this? Is it available at BB/Circuit City/CompUSA yet? I've bought too many things at EB lately...I promised myself I'd wait for a sale on this one.

Got it Saturday at EB for $39.99. You probably won't find it much cheaper than that for awhile. And there's the $10 gift voucher with it as well. Go for it.
