I am getting rid of my system to my bro but recenlt put in another 128mb pc800 ram.
so i have
p4 1.8
384mb pc800
geforce 3 64mb. 23.11's

I basically put it on 1024x768 and turned most details on except. Textures normal, tri linier filtering off, coronas off, dynamic lighting off. Everything lse on and min Frames set to 30. Now when i play it runs smooth except ill be walking around and ill come to a part in say asbestos where it will sevely chug down to like 5fps then if i move back and forth it will then shoot back up. Same when i die and start at a spawn. It chugs then speeds up. Its weid it like when i enter a certain room of place, it will chug likes its trying to load it or something then shoot up and be fine. Whats going on here. Can someone help and explain each detail and video setting to me? Whats slowing it down then speeding it up fine.

Did same thing with 256mb ram

I think I know your fix. Heres what I would do.

Overclock the GF3 to its max(isnt a must but would help get another 5+ FPS) and get some newer drivers
You need at least 512mb of ram before UT2003 will run right at 1024x768 with settings up halfway or more. So upgrade to 512 total
Set your audio to software 3d
Run the game in 1024x768,World detail(highest),Texture Detail(highest),Character detail(normal),Physics detail(high),Tri-linier(unchecked),Decal stay(normal),Character shadows(unchecked) and leave everything else checked.

Your system should run just fine with the settings listed above if you do was I listed about the video card and at least 512mb ram(main thing needed). I had a OEM Radeon 8500 at about the same speeds as your GF3 is. Also I had a 1600+,256mb PC2100 and my game ran like crap at times due to the HDD swapping to much due to only having 256mb of ram(was running same settings listed above). After I put another 256mb in it was a night and day difference on load times and how smooth the game ran(again useing same settings listed above). No reason why your system wouldnt do the same.

UT2003 is a memory hog. Does your hard drive work alot when the game slows down?

Operating System? Motherboard? Might be able to tweak existing, but overall the Memory and Video Drivers mentioned will help. Bare with us and will get you fraggin in no time....

There really ain't much tweaking you can do. UT2003 is a memory hog. All I can say is it helped me out alot. The best tweak you can do it o/c your video card, newer drivers and 512mb total of ram. You could always turn it down to 800x600 which should help alot.

do you know what im saying though. Its like when i die and reswam it slows up to like 5fps like its trying to cache the room of something. Then after 5 seconds it speed up normal. Does it at different places. Ill be running and gunning. Then ill say rin up stairs to a tunnel and it does same thing likes its trying to cache it. Beats me

As I said before I had the same problems before going to 512mb total. If you can maybe barrow some ram off someone long enough to try to see if that fixes it I would.

When the systems starts slowing down pay close attention to your PC and tell me if the HDD led is lighting up alot or if you can hear it working alot. If it is then this is a sign of HDD swapping which means the game is running out of memory to use and is mainly relying on the HDD.

k. As i said this system is going to my bro. Im just working some things out for him. Im getting 512 soon along with 2400+ or 2100+
