UT S3TC realization

This time last year was when Epic and S3 collaborated on licencing and bringing S3TC to savage2000 chipset(viperII). At the same time, they stated that because of the licence, S3TC wouldn't be added to D3D or OGL. Flash forward to now, one year later. S3 sold graphicss division to VIA, and Epic releases D3D and OGL BETA code with the main intreest in them being because of S3TC...

I'm surprized no one else has noticed this so far... Loki is better still, but give the boys at EPIC about 2 more releases and we'll all be enjoying S3TC in D3D.

Just thought I'd bring up the fact that Epic has already stated that they wouldn't be supporting S3TC in D3D or OGL even through the big petition made that was still going around this past NOVEMBER LoL!

I guess they finaly realized S3 is gone(not really) and/or their licence expired.

s3tc is a part of DirectX, Epic could have done this a while ago..they dont need to worry about liscensing fees if they wanted to make a d3d renderer for using DXTC, OpenGl however required a fee if u wanted it to use S3TC, that was payable then to S3...i do beleive that Via still owns the liscensing rights for S3TC now under OpenGl....Loki made them realize that S3TC was possible under OpenGl

Agreed on the OGL. ok then i'll add that Since they couldn't support OGL because of S3, they didn't wanna fool with d3d <g>

judging by the way D3d S3tc is performing on my system with the new d3d renderer. i can see why they stayed away from it....chug a lug!
