UT on a V3

Kruger, they made a mistake in the code which made VooDoo 3/5 unplayable in the demo. Good thing for you, they are working on a patch for it and it should be out within the next few days.

Head on over to the official forums and check it out for yourself.

probably won't run very well anyway. Its just playable on my GF3 Ti200 and thats about 3 times faster than the V3. Just spring for $90 and get a Ti500 from the geeks.

Just out of curiosity, where did you hear this?
The ReadMe claims support for the Radeon VE, Kyro 1/II and TNT2 all of which lack any form of Hardware T&L.
Indeed, I've seen it running on a TNT2 albeit it wouldnt run at max details due to lack of texture compression and cubemapping support... but that's hardly a board to play max details on in any case.

The V3/5 should be able to handle it if a TNT2 can, as they can at least emulate/fake Hardware T&L through 3dfx's old driver trick to emulate Hardware T&L via SSE/3DNow!.

Mark Rein has said several times on the official ut2k3 boards that the game will run on a Voodoo3/5 (albeit not very well).

I can confirm that it does work (in some form) on a Voodoo3. A friend of mine with a K62-500 and a V3-3000 was playing the demo earlier today. He did have it patched, however. Just finished downloading the demo, so I'll see if I can scrounge up a link to the patch.

To correct my post above...he was able to run the game as far as the nVidia logo screen where it crashes out. Apparently there isn't a patch yet, but there's one forthcoming...

3.9 TNT2 / Kyro II / Voodoo 3 issues
-------------------------------------

Due to the lack of certain key functionality like texture compression and
cubemap support TNT2, Kyro II, Voodoo 3, G400, ... cards won't be able
to run the game at the full visual quality. As uncompressed textures are
much larger than the compressed ones we have to drastically scale down
both size and color depth of the textures in order to fit them into video
memory. This means you will notice banding artifacts - especially in the
menus.

The lack of cubemap support means that reflections won't look correct
though during gameplay you'll most likely be hard pressed to spot the
difference.

I have a server running a V3 2000 AGP. Is it possible to run a UT 2003 Demo Server on this computer now or do I have to wait for the patch? Also, anyone know where I can get the goods on setting up a demo server (local or public)?

Thanks!

thats weird, I never tried the beta because of this, dont know where I read it and I tried the demo with my G400 and it didnt work at all, just blank screen.

I doubt it would run very well anyways, as the plain vanilla UT barely runs on my Voodoo2.

That game ran fine on a single Voodoo w/ my P2 300. Course, dual V2's made it quite quick😀
Now I gotta work on getting V5 to run it.

I tried the ut2003.ini fix and the Amigamerlin 2.5 V3 drivers.

I got the menu to show up and even got to set the settings. I try to connect to "instant action" and it froze at the ...LOADING... screen. I hard-booted... and tried an online connect game... chose my server... showed the URL... and froze at that screen.

I guess I'll wait for the patch. 🙂

Even with the code it'll be an unplayable slideshow on those cards. Do yourself a favour and pick up at least a GF3 Ti200 or a Radeon 8500.

The v1.1 patch fixes the bug with the G400.

Thanks for the heads up on the patch, will check it out after work.

Appreciate the comments on the graphics card, it's way over due for an upgrade - as is the rest of my system, but I only play UT and GPL (Grand Prix legends - best race sim out) which it handles very well.

At least I have the perfect excuse to upgrade now !

If it barely works, they shouldn't even list it as compatible. That happened with Tribes 2, the game looked great when it shipped. A Voodoo 3 was supposed to run the game, and it did, but it was really poor. The voodoo 3 owners complained badly, and they released a patch that neutered the game for everyone else.

Maybe I'm just bitter cause said patch came a week after I bought my GF2 for Tribes2.

Seriously though, the GF4 4200s are cheap now, I'd just pick one of those up if I didn't have one already 🙂

It works ok on my Voodoo5 5500, not great but playable. I haven't benched it yet, perhaps later(after some sleep) I'll post back my scores.
