I?ve been looking around on the net and can?t seem to find out ?exactly? how to do it. It seems to me that using D3D is out of the question since the new renderer doesn?t seem to work on the Radeon. Will OpenGL work? What renderer (Loki/Epics??) do I have to use and what modifications to UT do I have to make?

Thanx

Check the Unreal Technology page (http://unreal.epicgames.com/) and download the latest D3D/Opengl dlls. Also, the page should also have the changes that need to be made to the Unreal Tourney ini file. For some more information see the articles at Game Basement (www.gamebasement.com)

I'm running UT using the OpenGL.dll file from that download and it works great for my GeForce DDR (Creative Labs Annihilator Pro)

J105: Well the new OpenGL renderer dose work but only if I manually select it. Also it?s not a supported method according to UT. If I close the game and restart it it crashes(Deus Ex also dose this in OpenGL). So right now the main issue is to get OpenGL working since D3D has major texture problems. I?m curious is OpenGL a supported method for the GeForce?

It never shows up as supported no matter the video card, but it works great if configured correctly...

It "dose" work great other then the fact that UT dosnt let you start the game using it. Anyone know what is causing this to happen?

It lets me start the game with OpenGL... How do I know if I have the good textures?

NateSLC: UT lets you start in OpenGL? are u using the orginal OpenGL renderer or the new one? We seem to have simliar setups, both hardware and software. Must be somthing in UT.....

btw, the "good" textures are ones that came on the 2nd CD over 400 megs worth.

anyway here are my specs

Athlon 850@1000
MSI K7T Pro-2
256MB Corsair PC133
Radeon 64DDR

ATI driver: 4.13.7072
VIA 4in1: 4.28

Yeah, mine starts right up. I had a fresh install of UT, and followed the instructions on epic's site that is linked in this thread by J105, made sure I had DX 8. Then you can start UT in 'Safe Mode' and choose the 'Change your 3D video device'. Choose the 'all devices' option and select OpenGL.

Worked for me.

OpenGL for UT is not "supported" by Epic. I have to manually select it also for my GeForce card by going to Preferences and selecting Change Renderer, the selecting Show All (Its' been a while since I did this so I don't remember the exact names for the steps), however, UT does not crash when I restart the game.

As for as UT selecting OpenGL as the renderer for you graphics card, it won't do it as far as I know. Remember, UT was originally designed for Glide and the D3D rendering was crappy. The OpenGL rendering was total crap. Due to the large number of video cards (GeForces and Radeons)not supporting Glide, D3D support was greatly improved, but OpenGL was not. It wasn't until the programer at Loki worked on the OpenGL dll file that OpenGL rendering of UT became a viable option.

Sure you can choose OpenGL. You may get a warning about how it's an experimental mode, but you can choose it nonetheless. I'm using UT 4.36 (latest)...
