We are approaching the dawn of a new era as one of the last pieces of the great society is close to being put into place. To me, it would seem rather fitting, given the pilgrimage that Left has embarked upon to remake the Image of our Republic, that we also re-name our country.

The United Socialist States Of America.

What say you?

You have a few choices...

One of them ... Don't like the USA? Leave, Exit door is ---> that way.

Don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out.

The left are the ones that are always trying to change the greatest country in the world. If you don't like it so much why don't YOU leave instead of fucking it up for all the people that can actually compete in a free society? There are plenty of countries in the world that are closer to what you to want. Sure seems a hell of a lot easier.

Vice versa, the US is transforming, why don't you leave for a country with "more freedom". I hear Somaila is pretty nice this time of year, you can practically do whatever you want.

Socialism just means there will be help for you if you need it. You will be OK. You'll get used to the fact you won't be able to use the misery of others to flatter yourself. As a socialist you will be a much better person than you ever dreamed you could be and you won't any longer need to enjoy the misery of others. All the self flattering notions that you got where you are by true grit will fade away as you learn the tremendous joy of supporting others. You will become a good citizen.

In other word, it's a dream that ignores foundamental human flaws and either someone use force to make this utopian dream come true or it will not happen. Oh and unfortunately those who tried to force the dream come true eventually succumbed to their own flaws and ended up creating a utopian for themself on top of the misery of all others.

What human flaws, the fact you act worthlessly because you feel that way? Not to worry. In time the self hate bred into us by our competitive system will fade away. Socialism isn't about force or idealism or dreams. It's about how you are when you love.

Naa, it's not about acting worthless, but precisely my love for myself, my kids, and everyone in my family. My earning and other fruit of my labor is not unlimited and because of this love for myself and those I love, I need to keep it to myself as much as possible. Sure helping others and solve others misery is all nice and peachy but that's not gonna help my kid if I cannot afford a nice [college] education for them or my parents if they don't get the healthcare they deserve.

Exactly why both of those should be socialized.

Funny how now that the "commie!" accusation doesn't work anymore, people are trying to swap in "socialist!" as the new curseword.

Hint: Even if the U.S. was on that trajectory, socialism really isn't that bad.

Depends on the Socialism. People in the US obviously think that State Socialism is the only kind that exists thanks to the USSR (as evidenced by this thread). They likely have little knowledge and inclination to learn about Proudhon and the other Libertarian Socialists that were also popular at the time. They almost certainly know nothing of the closest thing to true Communism and Libertarian Socialism that has existed in the modern world; parts of Spain during the Spanish Revolution. Ironically enough, the Anarchism that existed in places like Catalonia and Aragon were in part crushed by Soviet Communists, and then later defeated by the nationalists (supported by the Italians and Germans, supplied by American companies).

I would say that we are probably inching closer to State Capitalism than State Socialism. Any health care plan that simply subsidizes private insurance companies simply reinforces this idea. There are also many critics of the USSR that claim that what really existed was State Capitalism, an idea embraced by Lenin himself. Regardless, I would be opposed to the authoritarianism involved.

As a Left Libertarian, I like to embrace the ideals of Proudhon, Jefferson, Paine, and the like. I'm somewhat intrigued by Syndicalism, Geolibertarianism, and Anarchism. There are many Left Libertarians that also embrace laissez-faire economics, but it would appear that they do so with the assumption that unions would eventually form and large corporations would lose their grip that is presently enforced by the state. I respect the left laissez-faire belief that this would lead to greater equality, but I don't know how effective it would be starting where we presently exist. In my opinion, the greatest compromise would probably be free-market Socialism as expressed by the Mutualists. By ensuring some collective ownership you can somewhat traverse Coasian bargaining problems and presumably enact some solution to the free rider problem existent in that bargaining.

Reagan is rolling over in his grave right now saying "I told you people what would happen if you didn't constantly fight it off with freedom". He was so damned right. We must continue to fight this.

Reagan expanded the earned income tax credit which is basically a negative income tax for the poor. A direct hand-out at the end of the year. Is that Socialist?

Reagan did more harm to America than any single person on the face of the earth. The level of destruction his misquided policies have caused makes Osama bin Ladens work look like child play. If nero fiddled while Rome burned, Reagen provided the fuel, struck the match, and cooked hotdogs on the burning embers of Americas ashes.:)

USSA? Sounds great. When do we pull up the voter rolls and ship the repubs off to get some "hard work" done?

We do have a ton of lazy ass reps in here posting talk radio talking points all day instead of working, and a whole lot of infrastructure upgrades to be done.

First up, comrade limbaughs wingnut sewer brigades, make us proud!
(Yes I am joking)

Do you really think that allowing foreign outsourcing, foreign work visas such as the H-1B and L-1 that displace hundreds of thousands of Americans from often knowledge-based, college-education-requiring jobs, and mass immigration that puts downward pressure on wages would be part of a socialist plan intended to help lower and middle class Americans?
