explain how they can mess up sonar and eyeballs behind spotting scopes.
They were all sleeping on the job?
There are at least 7 people that are supposed to be looking out for things, not to mention surface radar.
Then you got the Watchstanding officer/mate not plotting location of surface ships? AIS broken?
Where are the coms people?
Did they update the software on the radar systems or something?
Just don't get how these are all happening.

like I said, it's people messing up, nothing to do with tech.

I have heard complaints from several people in the US and Canadian Coast Guards, claiming that USN ship handlers are basically a menace. At first I thought it was just inter-service ribbing combined with a beer or seven, but they always seemed to take it a little (or a lot) too far before professional courtesy would kick in and they'd shut up and start playing WoW again.

So I've kinda wondered about that.
