Anyone have any more information on this? The pdf file isn't available for download on their website (outpost.com) and i'm sceptical from getting it from usr.com

<< The pdf file isn't available for download on their website >>

Try rereading the thread, the pdf has been posted, direct from usr robotics

I spent some time researching this, and was surprised how little info their was about this card. No info on praticallynetworked.com, and one useful usenet post here explaining what has to be done to get the PC Card to work in XP.

Even after that, it isn't clear whether the PCI adapter will work under XP.

Anyone have more info on this?

thanks, I got one. I don't care about the 128bit security or else since I just use this to get internet connection when I am away from my work.

I heard the 802.11b protocol is only half duplex, meaning you can't send and receive at the same time. Does this mean you can't download a large file and continue to browse in a different window?

I dont believe so, ive used it before on campus and done multiple things at once...

the half duplex means it can't send and receive simultaneously. if you're downloading files and browsing the web it's still receiving data. it works in packet switching anyway so you shouldn't notice any real difference

IIRC, 56k modems are also half duplex

I think this is just the adapter card. the only only thing that implies you get both is the picture.
Everything else says that you're getting an "adapter card". if you add it to your cart it says you're buying an "adapter card". it doesn't look to me that you're getting both that and the PC Card.

In the first line of the description:

The PCI Adapter includes a removable PC card so you can use it with either your desktop or laptop computer. Simply leave the card in the adapter to install it into an available PCI slot in your desktop, or remove the card for use in your laptop's PCMCIA slot.

😀

The first line in the "Detailed Description" should give you an idea of what it comes with...

EDIT: bah someone beat me

i skipped over this post when i first saw it, thinking it wasnt 802.11b

but now.... thanks, very hot deal. Outpost seems to be the cheapest at $69.

edit: no limit on # of rebates that i can see, right?

Thats what my first thought was, but their rebate number rep said that USR has a policy of one rebate per household... so be wary...

also any idea if this is in stock? says limited, which with outpost normally means they dont have it.

I ordered just b4 midnight and it has already been shipped, got 2 day deliver, 2 day costed 50 cents more than ground.

It says "Call for Availability" on the page now....guess it's out of stock. Oh well, I'm sure they'll get more in by the end of June when the rebate expires 🙂

Just got my two today I'll let you know how it works out, one will be going into my XP desktop and the other into a win2k laptop so I'm sure I'll have problems 😀 Oh well at least it's cheap.
