is there a point?

btw the USPS does not use tax dollars to operate any more.
is that the most current article you could find, 1988?

Do you have any idea how many parcels go through the post office in a day? I'd venture to guess that it's A LOT more than Fedex or UPS. They handle letters, packages and global services. Try sending a letter accross the country for $.34 with UPS or FedEx and see how far you get.

we all might have a complaint now and then about something being lost.
sometimes i'm ammazed that something as complex as the post office can work at all
here are some facts about the post office

i sent at least 1000 items thru the mail for ebay, only 2 have been lost (1 for sure, 1 who knows)
and the insurance check for the one came in less then 3 weeks, not bad

1st class .34 cents is extremely slow, I didn't get a mail from someone for like 10 days and that usually takes 3 day but they sure are some goof balls that don't deliver on time. also sometime they lose mail. hey if you want faster pay more for express mail take 2-3 day still which is $12.75 just to mail 1 once mail.
heck some of you haven't learned all the facts yet, i see where you are coming from.
anyway I worry alot when thing are being shipped parcel post/priority/or media mail, all are the same.
1. it slow
2. there is good chance of damaged or lost package.

Cutebunny, I believe you are wrong. I was a manager at Fedex and a temp at USPS. The USPS is better run than fedex, I now send all my things through USPS priority.

i guess we all have our ups and downs eh? some people like fedex other don't. some like ups, other don't hmm i dont know what to say we're all confused. hehe. if we dont have post office to deliver mail, who will? I deliver throught the post office alot thought and I even seem them drop packages from head to shoulder instead of gently setting it down. regardless how well it is packaged, the impact is enought to damages any sensible component such as a monitor, a case, cdrom, printers etc.
what I did is write " do not drop, fragile or handle with care" so they did. :)

Your sentence means "do not drop, do not fragile, or do not handle with care". BTW, with the whole anthrax stuff it's going to be a little slower. (My dad works for the main office in Dallas, TX and he can vouch for that) Also, USPS is not owned by the government - they're a seperate entity that falls under federal laws. (Like opening other people's mail is a federal offense) And having worked for UPS, I'll tell you that I have yet to see anyone treat packages worse than UPS. And please do not write "fragile" on the box - the more times you stamp that crap on, the worse the box is treated.

Bad time for a rant.

Most of us don't have to worry about getting a biological terror disease as part of our daily work routine. USPS workers do.

Now is not the time to whine about the job they do. :|

The USPS is great at what they do.

Never a single problem in literally decades of dealing with them on a near daily basis.

People take them for granted and often only dwell on the rare mistakes.:|

Well the reason for using USPS is it's the cheapest shipping and you can insure it for cheap too, just insure your important stuff when using USPS
