Speaking of stuff that does not make any sense, all of our letter mail goes to Toronto to be processed now. Yeah, send everything 900km then back.

Most shipments also go through Toronto first even if they come from the west coast. i guess it still ends up being cheaper to send everything at major hubs than to have them be sort at other smaller facilities.

There is probably already a plane or truck going from your town to the big hub with 90% of the mail being non-local. Doesn't really cost anything to add the local mail too and you avoid having a local sorting facility.
