so last friday, I sold my mp3 player on ebay, and the buyer paid me thru paypal, and i did the USPS print your own label thing. The guy lives in NY and i live in IL. I brought the package with the printed out slip on it to my local post office last saturday. I personally handed the postman the package. When i go to track it on USPS it just says that they have been electronically notified of the package.... no details. And the buyer was getting anxious and called USPS today, and they told him to contact me..... what should I do?

USPS tracking is the most worthless thing ever. It's not really tracking. It updates "when it feels like it" and only tells you when they've been notified, when it's ready for delivery, and when it's been delivered. No steps in between.

Ya - you can't trust on the USPS tracking to be updated... sometimes I get my package before the tracking even shows anything other than the "we have been electronically notified" message. Don't sweat it. If the buyer is still stressed out - send him this thread.

It's not tracking. It's delivery confirmation. You hear nothing until they scan that they've delivered it. If that.

I sent a package that never got scanned in. 3 weeks later I was pissing my pants until he gave me good feedback. Couldn't ask him if he got it, because then he'd realize he could screw me over and claim he didn't get it.

Best thing is to pay $0.50 for $100 insurance on an item.

That guarentees tracking and signature delivery.
If it does not show up, USPS will have to pay up.

I shipped a box of fruit via USPS, A week passes the box never arrives, I call them, they don?t know what happen to it. Two months later a beaten up box arrived at the receive door, a beaten up box full of rotten fruit. Never ship via USPS.

See my post above.

When it can cost them money, then it becomes a differnet story regarding service.

One of the crappy things about USPS Priority Mail is that it is NOT guarateed 2-3 day delivery, so during December (when they are insanely busy) packages take forever. A package that was sent to me Priority on the 4th just arrived on the 20th.

Erm, I sent something via Priority Mail (see the Secret Santa thread) and it got there within the 2-3 day delivery time. Yes, I sent it in December. Yes, my secret pal has already received it. :)

Insuring fruit is difficult when your not allowed to ship fruit to different states.

That must depend on the state.

I have shipped from Fla to areas across the country. From Mass to CA and Fla with no problems. All wre using USPS at the time.
