This package is a holster I've been waiting a month for them to build. It's going from AL to PA. What is it doing in TX?

USPS officials announced in November the postal service ended the 2012 fiscal year with a record net loss of $15.9 billion and is likely to run out of cash within 12 months.

i bet they could come up with 16 billion if they charged 1$ for every stupid catalog i get between September and January

A buddy at work has had that happen, twice, in the last month or two. They are not only losing money, they are losing their minds!

But seriously, they are supported by the government. Why should they care? People who do care need do be in charge.

postal system has taken a big nose dive the last year or so. i used to swear by priority mail but ever since they started closing post offices their service has declined.

I had a UPS one go from I think it was California to Colorado then to Arizona (must have realized they messed up here) so it went back to Colorado, then Kansas and finally Missouri.

The most efficient route is often not the shortest route. It might be cheaper or faster to go AL->TX->PA than AL->PA.

It got scanned as departing coppell only to be "processed through sort facility" at coppell again.

Damn it.

Its hard to say whether this is USPS screwing up or the seller made a bad label.

Either way it is intensely frustrating on an item that takes a month to make and probably will take another month to make if this thing gets lost going around in circles.

It's possible that packages going from the deep south to the northeast all get processed through TX. UPS, Fedex, etc, use a hub and spoke system. A local center will pick up the package and push it up the chain to regional, super regional, etc processing centers. Eventually it will be joined with other packages going to another region, and once there work back down the chain for delivery.

Seems unlikely that it would go to TX instead of, say, Atlanta, but it's possible...

The USPS is self sufficient. The only reason you're seeing those losses is because of their pension funding rules. They're overfunded but not allowed to adjust.

So you think money magically appears from nowhere?

It comes from tax dollars. Since you didnt know that I suggest you look up "taxes" on wikipedia. how can we lose money to ourselves? The service goes to the people that use it paid for by the people that use it.

USPS is self-funded. It hasn't been receiving tax dollars.

Here's a very recent example of one of my USPS priority packages mailed on august 18th. The tracking is hilarious. I'm glad I wasn't in any rush. Sorry I had to remove some of the columns ebcause the forum screws up the formatting. My package went all over the country.

USPS said:

I do like how it was delivered twice. This was sent to a PO box.
