This one seems to crop up now and again. I recall it happening when the EPA's armed officers bought a couple years supply of ammo and it came out to 'OMG like 10,000 rounds per officer!' and the EPA was like, 'Yeah it's good that they practice now and then.'

The tinfoilers were convinced that it was really about transforming the EPA into B Hussein Soetoro's renegade private army.

I would get pissed if they didn't buy in bulk.

If I buy 50 rounds of range ammo its $20. If I buy 250 rounds its $80. I can only imagine the price break you would get at 10,000,000 rounds.

And IIRC, with the situation you were talking about, it was a contract for a certain number of years. So the government agreed to buy a billion rounds over ten years (made up numbers but you get the point).

I like lithy...he's a cool guy. He just reads too many crackpot websites that get him full of fear.

There are approximately 80 federal agencies with armed federal agents. The USPS IG\PI are one of the more reasonable ones.

I always thought the post office jingle there sounded a little to close to the green latern oath.
Having seen the Green Lantern movie, I have expunged anything I ever knew about Green Lantern from my memory banks. Although I don't believe as a kid Green Lantern was even on my radar, so I probably never knew the Green Lantern oath. Closest I've ever come may have been seeing Sheldon recite it on Big Bang, but now I can't recall a word.

Ok, i suppose it's yet to be seen how much they're ordering. . to see if it indeed raises red flags . . . . but why do agents of the State need to be armed if the citizenry doesn't? Why can't they just call 911 like everyone else?

In brightest day, in blackest night
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power, Green Lantern's Light!

Although there we variations even in the comic series.
