what hurts me most is the .05¢ uppage on the DC#, HAHAHA

🙁 - I wish they'd just jack up the rates and leave them alone for 10 years or so. I hate buying 1 cent stamps.

I just hope that they jack up the bulk mailing rates, too. I'm sick of getting 20 credit offers a week in my mailbox :frown:

Same here, the stamp should be jacked up to an even number (40 cents).

Express overnight should be $15.

Then leave it alone until 2010.

why does it seem like things are getting more expensive, yet jobs never want to pay employees more?

USPS: New Postage Rages, PRICES ARE UP!

<--------------- Falls out of chair over the shocking news.

USPS usually lowers postal rates dont they?

not quite, they sualy riase once every few years. Though this is the 2nd raise this year? or the past year and a half?most likely because of 9/11, USPS has gone through a lot, they are also paying for more security now, mail enclosures, probably insurance, and so on. Gotta make up the cost somewhere =\

In all actuality what the USPS is paying for (or really YOU are paying for) is a system that is receiving less volume of mail, due to e-mail and faxes etc, but no reduction in the human workforce employed to move the lower volume of mail.

So as usual, the American taxpayer is forced to subsidize a bloated, antiquated government agency.

And that sadly is not shocking news, just the status quo for the government.

Volume is not declining:

It's not as bloated as you might think. If you've ever had to deal with the postal service of any other country, I doubt you'd be complaining; your options either appear to be (from my experiences, at least): pay up the ass for good service and delivery, or pay little, and pray it gets there. What we get with the USPS is still a relative bargain to anything else I've seen.

wasn't this publicly announced a while ago?

possibly, though i just found out today 🙂 and figured i would post it anyway in case.
No one else i have talked to knew about ti other than my dad, who spends a lot of time watching those business reports because of his stock holdings.

USPS needs the money to buy overpriced, POS, Segways for their carriers. Much cheaper transportation options exist but the Postmaster General wants the most expensive toy. Good to know where your postal money is going towards.

You are not forced to subsidize it. You can send all your stuff through UPS, FedEx or one of the other shipping companies.

Except that usps has a monopoly for standard letter size postage.

I rarely use the USPS anymore anyway, just for sending cards and stuff. I play all my bills online and if I have to send a package I use fedex.
