Wow, thanks for the heads up. Had no idea this was coming, and recently bought a bunch of postcard stamps. Turns out they're going to be obsolete in a few days. Bummer!

You'll just need to get some penny stamps.

Christ looks like I need to buy abotu 50 penny stamps. I should just convert to everything being paid online and be done with the post office for good.

Should do this anyway for so many reasons. I switched a couple years ago and couldn't be happier. Don't even have a checkbook anymore.

Thanks for the heads up OP!

At the risk of sounding super obvious here, you guys DO know that forever stamps don't "go obsolete," right? The whole point of the program was so the PO could stop printing all those penny stamps...

You do realize that the "foreever" stamps are worth the current first class rate so if you buy them before the rate goes up they are still good for the new rate.

Edit: Oops, missed the other identical post.

Actually, JBT was responding to my post about postcard stamps, which do become obsolete. After the 27th, they will not work without a 1 cent stamp. This is the same for any type of postage other than 45 cent forever stamps.

I still hand write my clients monthly statements, its a form of discipline that has some advantages...forces you to revisit what you did, and what you need to do next month.

wonder if they'll still be forever stamps when the USPS goes out of business?

theyre not a business. its a government program to help the country function. whether or not the post office is needed anymore is another argument, but they dont make a profit because theyre not a business. theyre there to make things work with the money they are allotted by elected representatives.

I see the OP as a nice notification/reminder that you will need 1 penny stamps come the 27th, if you have a stock on non-forever stamps.

What I don't see it as, is a hot deal. Stock up now and save 2%! :D

I still have about 8 2c stamps left over from another stamp price increase. Think it was from before forever stamps. Since I now use the forever stamps, not sure what to do with leftovers.

Buy enough 1c/2c stamps to add up to $0.45/.46 and stick them all on an envelope. You can mail that as long as it stay within the max weight.

But neither are they designed to operate at a loss, let alone annual losses in billions!

Actually their losses wouldn't be nearly as bad if they weren't forced to prepay their pension costs for 75 years unlike most other government agencies....

I know but there is something about writing that check that stays in my mind vs hitting submit for payment. It helps mentallyto keep track of my expenses.

I just use my bank's online bill pay. It's like writing checks, just on a computer (and the bank actually mails a physical check to each payee). That way I still have the mental step, but don't have to visit all the different websites of my creditors.

Anyway, in for a roll of 100 stamps at Costco. In before the man tries to keep me down by another penny :D
