USPS Express Mail [ edited ]

Ok, I like the USPS -- they have great prices for different services, but one thing that I just figured out is, their Express mail service sux!

My friend mailed a package via Express Mail 2 days ago -- guaranteed to get to me by today (this afternoon) and he checked online: it said that delivery was attempted at 2:37PM today and that they will reattempt at a later day. WTH?! I was home at that time, and I didn't hear the doorbell ring nor any knocks on the door.

I feel bad for my friend who paid at least $10 more to get the package shipped via Express Mail... 🙁

/end rant

Question: Can he get a refund since they were unable to deliver on the day as promised, or will they argue that "no one was home", even if I was clearly home, waiting for the package to arrive? The poor guy even wrapped the present in the box himself (he's not a gift-wrapping kinda guy).

PSA: If you want something delivered within a 2-day period, don't use the USPS. Try FedEx or DHL or even *gulp* UPS.

Thanks for reading and happy holidays.

see my last post below... They r0x! They actually delivered it on Christmas day! What an absolutely wonderful service! 🙂

I wish that were the case... But this is what they have listed when I enter the tracking #:
You entered ED27 9457 886U S
We attempted to deliver your item at 2:37 pm on December 24, 2004 in TORRANCE, CA 90501 and a notice was left. A second delivery attempt will be made. If unsuccessful, we will hold it for five business days and then it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

No notice was left. No one was knocking or anything like that. 🙁

Nope, they look at when the package was delivered or at least attempted to be. If it's within the time period (usually 3pm and not one minute later) of the day specified then that releases them from having to give a refund.

Ugh. That sux >.<

TY for the info, though. I'll definitely find out what happened to it. I mean, how can they say attempted delivery when I didn't even get the notice

I'm guessing temp seasonal worker was on the route and decided it was time to go home for an early Christmas. Had it scanned before 3pm so his/her butt was covered. You can put a complaint in with your local postmaster. Probably wont do a lot of good though, as by the time the postmaster looks at it, the temps are long gone.

I had the same experience a month or so ago. I paid an extra $15 b/c the trader needed by a certain day and I mailed it late. To make up for that, I mailed it express. Not only did it not get there on time, but they delivered to the wrong address. I got the service of media mail for $25.

I suppose. My daily mailman is a kewl guy -- he even caught a package that UPS delivered to the wrong house, he caught a glimpse of my name and addy and told me about it... Anyway, I suppose I'll let it pass, it is after all, Christmas eve.... They shouldn't advertise, though, the Express Mail 2-day deal on the 22nd if it's not so true...

And as for Colt45, happy christmas, you prick! ... 😉

I remember my postmaster telling me nothing is guaranteed if they have it there within 1-2 business days of the promised day then that is supposedly OK. Only if you are in a major city do you have a chance on getting express stuff on time.

BTW: UPS is very adimate about getting packages out to people, especially express packages. Ive seen loaders get nearly screamed at for not putting the packages in the right places on the trucks etc.

<- seasonal UPS, atm

I heard something on the news about express mail being delivered on Christmas day, so you might get it tomorrow.

OMG, you're right!

It did come on Christmas day! That was an even bigger suprise than not receiving it on Christmas eve. I'm removing all my bad complaints towards the USPS. They get a nod and kudos in my book now 🙂

...hope everyone had a marvelous holiday! Back to work on Monday 🙁 🙁
