I own a 2 family house that's part of a row of houses, all new (a total of 12 units). Yesterday the USPS installed a clusterbox in front of our building - what exactly does that mean? I'm going to the post office after work, but does that mean that they'll stop delivering to our existing mailbox or is clusterbox usage optional?

Do you mean something like this?

If so, you may be the lucky one who not only gets your mail delivered to your curb, but you also get to see all your neighbors every single day.

Enjoy.

Indeed, just like that - does that mean that I have to use it, even though I'd rather get my mail delivered to my mailbox?

Yes it does. I learned a long time ago that there is no negotiating with the Postal Service.

They'll put a key in your mail box for larger deliveries that opens one of the larger boxes then when you're done you can't remove the key, only the mail man can.
